Diabetic Retinopathy

Type2"N"me

Hi all..A bit shocked today. I was diagnosed with Type 2 in May 2018 with and Hba1c of 68..by September 2018 I was at 32 and my readings in December and June were both 40. My eye test last June was also clear. I had a letter to say that I have developed Retinopathy since my June 2018 test even though my bloods are under control,my exercise averages between 5 and 6 miles a day of walking and my diet has limited the bad carbs. Any thoughts welcomed.

Did it just say "background retinopathy"?

If so, it is reversible, and may even be just the person reviewing the scan being over enthusiastic. It has happened to several members here, but the next one has been clear.

If you’re talking about background retinopathy I had similar results. First test clear then second test showed background retinopathy despite good blood sugar control. A couple of months back I had my third test this time with a clear result again.
When I got the background retinopathy result I posted here about my concerns. Here’s the thread:

Dark Horse’s post was particularly reassuring.

Edit for typo

Thanks for the reply. Looks like a big standard letter but still a shock.
Depends on what letter actually said, if it said "background retinopathy" then that is not so bad and many have reversed it.
It's a bit open to question because it could be down to the person reviewing the scans and their interpretation of the results.
However if it is indeed "background," then I guess the letter you got is the bog standard NHS one which does tell alot.

Take care.
