Diabetics' expectations from HCPs

To start with, All Doctors & Nurses should know the importance of personalised medicine in the field of diabetes care because no two individuals are the same.

They should also try to listen more as generally, we know our own bodies and what works/doesn't work for us.
 
It would be beneficial to see the same specialist and nurse every time you go.
I see a different one each time and get told different things. It's hard to know which one is right and who's advice to follow.

Can't add much more than what you've said Debs, however we have to remember that not all GP's are specialists in diabetes, there's only two out of eight in my surgery that specialise in it.
 
Doctors shouldn't suggest that symptoms may be due to diabetic complications, before they have even been investigated. This can unnecessarily worry the patient.
 
I think it would also be helpful if doctors were to realise that just because we have diabetes doesn't mean we don't get other illnesses too. The amount of times I've been to the doctors about something completely unrelated but have had to go through my entire diabetes care is ridiculous!

Being told that having a blood sugar level of 11.1 is extremely high....yes it's high but not too high!
 
There needs to be more communication between gp's and hospital specialists. I have fantastic care at my local hospital where I visit a pump specific clinic with the same doctor and my diabetes nurse whereas, at my gp surgery, I have had very little positive treatment.
