Diabetics R Us

Daughter's appointment with GP this morning was rather fraught it would seem.

During conversation doctor to daughter are you sure you are not diabetic?

Daughter to doctor well doctor you were the one who told me I wasn't

Doctor really?

Looks on computer oh yes looking at the results of your HbA1c you were borderline diabetic

Daughter to doctor thats funny I was told results were normal.

She is having blood test tomorrow morning.

How often do I say this to newcomers on this forum - never ever accept words such as "fine", "normal", "OK". What happened to your daughter happens to so many others. It is so important to ask for the figures, see a print out or results on-line, and check for yourself. Asking for this information is alien to healthy people. My friend thinks I am OTT about it. She never asks. She always accepts that if she doesn't hear anything back after tests that all is well, and always accepts "normal" from medics. Her husband is currently going through blood cancer treatment with frequent blood tests, so she is now beginning to understand that knowledge is power and that doctors filter out stuff they think we won't understand, or miss stuff completely. It really annoys me, and is my soap box subject. Rant over!!

Hopefully your daughter will be "fine" :) Fingers crossed.
 
Turns out when they did the blood test this morning they did everything but the HbA1c.

Now she has had a phone call from doctors the lab has contacted them already as there is a thyroid problem and she needs further tests.

So maybe some progress toward some answers regarding what has been causing all these problems

Further to the above posting she has just had a second phone call for her to pick up a prescription for folic acid as her folic is a bit low at 0.3 o_O

I hope they got that figure wrong.

Or maybe she misheard.

Again, she needs a print out! Please encourage her to ask for one. :)

That is very low.
 
Things are changing quite rapidly now a further phone call from the doctor from his home it seems a HbA1c test was done the lab called him at home and the test has come back as borderline diabetic and so a further HbA1c is now booked for a few weeks from now amazing .

Folic is quite low but not actually that low .

I have told her she needs to register for Internet at the surgery and to ask for printouts until she has access herself.

I think that number if it were so would be incredibly low so we discussed it and I think the number was more like 1 or 2 point 3 not 0.3. daughter is not sure as the last 2 days have been quite manic for her.
