I also had mine pierced around 1970, similar to @SaskiaKC where the sleeper went in the ear with the gun.. We weren't given studs in those days. We had sleepers - very small rings, always gold, and had to leave them in for a certain number of weeks before changing them for something else. I had mine done at a specialist ear piercing place. I think they also did tatoos but I can't remember. I do remember we had to keep turning the sleeper to keep the hole open prperly. I ended up getting my hair stuck in it and needed help to unstick it.

As for dogs licking. I believe their saliva has anti biotic properties, hence they can clean their own cuts and injuries, but the hygiene side of things depends on the sort of other things the dog likes to lick or eat!

Ah, but the machine was ancient by the time we used it on my ear in 2017! It looked pretty ancient too and had sat in a closet long enough to get stuck

I went to the other opticians this morning. The man there said the glasses did not "quite" match the written prescription. So I took them back to the first optician, and the optometrist there told me that she had not put in the astigmatic correction. (????) So she wrote a new prescription to match my old prescription (same one I've had for 20-odd years), WITH its astigmatism correction (yay!) and recommended I give up on the bifocals. She also said that the smaller lenses in the new glasses might be the reason the bifocals didn't work for me and maybe a larger frame would be better. I thought, Why on earth didn't you tell me that a month ago when I was in here trying on all those frames and you were right over there talking with the liaison from the ophthalmologists?

Oh, well, according to the previous sentence, I have FINALLY learned how to spell ophthalmologist. I am usually a good speller but that word has had me bamfoozled for weeks now! Anyway, the new glasses have been ordered, and I got a copy of this prescription, so that I can go online and order an inexpensive backup pair when I have some extra cash just lying around. The opticians I saw this morning, who read the prescription, were really nice and quoted me a great price for a vision exam and frames, so I may go back to them sometime this summer, depending on how this third effort from the original opticians works for me. At least the other opticians have given me a straightforward answer to my question -- no, Medicare does not cover a vision exam. For that I need an ophthalmologist. 'Bout time someone was upfront with me on this!

Sigh.

And I learned the proper name for the eye machine thingy you look through to have your eyes tested. It's called a phoropter.

Another boiling hot day. Poor Ness got a bit over heated so we had to stop in the shade on some grass so she could lie down with legs outstretched (she stretches her back legs out like a frog). She was fine after a minute or two. She has a cold coat and a cold mat but they were both in the car. We met another Boston Terrier, off the lead.Ness was on the lead. He was so friendly. Ness didn't like him at all, tried to bite him, missed, and her needle teeth caught Mr Blue's nail. Ouch. He will live. Unfortunately, this other Boston (Oscar) is a member of the same Boston Facebook group as us. I will have some apologies to make mwhen we get home from holiday! It was, however, lovely to meet another group member, even if Ness didn't agree.

How I love this forum with all its sensible people! Every time I try asking something or helping someone out on one of the diabetes facebook groups the answers get me so frustrated I want to throw my computer out the window! About half an hour ago I posted this in a Dutch group. It was a Libre group, which suggests members are a little smarter and more involved with their diabetes than the members of the average diabetes group, as there are only a select few who get their Libre funded and many members are self funding.

Rough translation of my post:
"In anticipation of possible funding next year (in my situation). It seems that you get only 50 test strips quarterly when you have a funded sensor, so half a strip per day plus a couple to lose.
Has anyone looked into the cheapest test strips yet and where best to order them?"

So now I know 38 people never use up their alotted test strips, there are 6 people who offered me their leftover test strips (but didn't tell me for which meter, and besides, we're talking a possible problem next year and it's only may), I should never use cheap Chinese test strips, I shouldn't use different meters and I need a new meter if I order a different brand test strips (hey, who would've thought!).

The worst part is that they all mean very well so I need to stay friendly and patient. But I'm afraid no one in the Netherlands has bothered to find out what the cheapest test strips are. And no, we do not have the Code Free here.

@Bluetit1802 of course I wasn't there but it seems to me like it is Oscar who owes the apology, for being off lead.

I hope Mr Blue's nail is better now.

.eat more fish and lindseed oil = oiling sourced from beneath the skin?, olive oil ear drops? = external oiling. Now that leads to a radical thought = transparent boot polish . Afterall it is wax that is supposed to protect our ear canal!
