Diabetjc Neuropathy

Hi, does anyone out there know anything about Diabetic Neuropathy, I have had very bad pain down my right leg unable to walk or bend my leg the doctor says it is
Sciatica but is it, could this be to do with the damage to the nerves in my leg, if so what test can be done, or what do I tell my doctor to look for ? this condition has the same effect as Sciatica and is easily mistaken for that. I am type 1 and have been for eight year's,

Hi, T2 here.

I had diabetic neuropathy for six or seven years. Mine was very painful "burning feet" plus stabbing pain, and "pins and needles" tingle pain in feet. Got much worse at night, and sometimes the only way to relieve the worst of the burning pain was to get up and walk around for a couple of hours. Didn't affect mobility or anything like that. It contributed a lot to very poor sleep as well. Cleared up very quickly within a few weeks once I got my BGs back to normal levels, although I still have a bit of tingle which is probably permanent (five years later) but isn't really pain.

That doesn't sound to me to be the same as what you're describing.

I suffer with sciatica, not all the time, but if I over do it it returns. Mine is from bulging discs in my lumber region of my spine. It’s from pressure on my lumber nerve roots. It is a very particular pain, excruciating at times. The pain runs down from my lower back through my buttock down the back of my thigh to my knee, sometimes lower into my calf. It seems to only affect one leg or the other leg, never both at the same time. I would think Neuropathy would affect both legs, but I’m not a medical person, so give that the weight it deserves.

Hi suffer with severe neuropathy both legs and feet and elbows to ends of fingers the test you require is called an NCG test nerve conduction study very accurate even tells you the percentage of diabetes which has caused the neuropathy does hurt a little as they literally electrocute you in your fingers and put needles in your legs to measure the nerve activity I don’t go a day without pain from it can’t walk much now don’t sleep I’m on max dose of pregablin for it which I think is 600 mg and a cream for your feet if you can get it that is it’s called capsaicin 0.020 it is a numbing cream does defo work on your feet hope this helps wouldn’t wish this on anyone
