I was diagnosed 6 weeks ago by the dr after my wife got worried with me drinking 3-4 litres of pop during the night and also loosing 2st in 3weeks.

My BG was 132 and has come down to 127.

am on metaformin and some other little pill given to me by the diabeties nurse
my diet is poor as i dont like a lot of stuff that is acceptable on the diet sheet. so am just plodding atm.

What tests were performed to determine what Type you are? I'm assuming they have said its Type 2 because of the medication they have put you on

Type 2 doesn't generally lead to weight loss and that is a high hba1c, if they didn't do a GAD and C-peptide test I would encourage asking for those

A lot of the "professionals" wouldn't think to do these and determine you a Type 2 due to your age etc (I mean no offence but you look a tad older)
xx

I'm a bit concerned about that diet sheet - I had loads of printouts from the dr as they wanted me on high carb low fat low calorie due to my weight - down to following the diet sheet, for the most part.
I used them to light the barbecue the day after my diagnosis.
If there is advice such as porridge for breakfast you might wish to reconsider your options.
If you do not get good results from eating a low carb diet it might be wise to go back to the dr for a reevaluation of the type.

Type 2s with very high blood sugar levels can actually lose weight. Happened to my brother in law. Ironically, he passed out after downing a couple of liters of Dr Pepper while mowing the lawn in 100 degree weather.
