On December 21 I got diagnosed with Type 1 through a Blood Test at my gp. My blood sugar was so high the machine couldn't read it. Found out later is was at 40 and because of the constant high I was down to 43.34kg. Now months later it is finally all hitting me, I just feel like I am depressed all the time and I don't know what to do about it...

Wake up,
Open the curtains
Smell the fresh air
Kiss a loved one
Eat something nice
Go for a walk
Smile at yourself.
Question why?
Settle down
Have another kiss if you can
Do something that excites you.
Take stock, (after all you're brilliant)
Sleep well
And repeat.

Hi Babygomez

Welcome to the Forum. Diagnosis of any log-term condition is always an emotional blow. I have encountered it with both my diagnosis of diabetes and then of Parkinson's Disease - but things do get better. Understanding your conditions and taking control was, I found, vital in progressing to a better place in my head. We have many good and knowledgeable people with Type 1 on the forum and they, like all of us, will give you all the support we can.

Take care

Doug

Hi. Yes, diabetes is a pain and many of us were hit by it as a surprise; I was never overweight, went to the gym, had a sensible diet etc but there you go. As you may have gathered from the media you are not alone although most diabetics are T2. My nephew was diagnosed with late onset T1 at age 22 3 years ago and has managed to accommodate several injections a day without too much hassle. I hope things settle for you. As you may have gathered from the forum having the right low'ish carb diet will help keep overall insulin intake down which can help with swings. I don't know anything about pumps so can't help there I'm afraid. With a sensible diet and the insulin your weight should gradually go back up and hopefully you will feel better from actually being able to make use of the food you eat. Good luck and take care.
