Hi all been diagnosed today as type 2 via phone from drs basically said I’ll send u a link and call u in a month to see how you are getting on.... helpful ?!

Not very helpful. In the meantime the general advice is to keep the carbs in your diet down and focus more on Proteins, fats, Veg and non-tropical fruit. Buy yourself a glucose meter so you can check your blood sugar from time to time

You need to tell us more.

Presumably you had blood tests and what was the reason for having them?

What were the readings that you have been given. Is this sudden onset or has it been gradual?

Hi,

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like "quality" from the GP.?

If you can give us a little more info regarding HbA1c numbers & wot not? As much as you're comfortable with giving.
You may just get some advice from experinced members & ditch the confusion..

Best wishes.

Hi @Kimbo20

Welcome to the forum. It can be very overwhelming when diagnosed and also stressful. Yes you have had less than stellar assistance from your doctor though to be frank there are many here who have not had great help or advice from their doctor.

So you really should get a meter. This is generally not recommended by the medical profession. Their view is often that type 2 is a progressive disease and there is nothing you can do about it. That is not what many people here have experienced. Many type 2s here have found that by reducing their carb intake they can bring their blood sugars down and many find they can bring them down into the non-diabetic range.
So at the start it seems like a lot to learn. Don't stress too much people here are very helpful and are very willing to share their knowledge and to listen if you just need to vent. There are a few useful links in my signature block.

To keep it simple. Type 2s have a difficulty with carbs. All carbs not just sugars. How much we can tolerate varies from person to person- hence the meter. So the meter will let you know how many carbs your body can tolerate.

Keep reading around and posting. I can promise that people here are willing to help and it does get better.

Welcome

What wonderful bedside manner! Should be up for the doc of the year award. Sheesh.

https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/blog-entry/the-nutritional-thingy.2330/ covers some practical things like what's going on, diet, and how to test. (Get yourself a meter, it'll be your best friend from here on in! One with cheap strips, as those are the running cost). And take a breath. I know a diagnosis feels earth shattering, which, who am I kidding, it is. But as you learn more about T2 and how to handle it, it'll become second nature to take care of yourself properly. It'll be okay, honest. You're in a good place with lots of people who know answers to any questions you may have.

Be good to yourself eh.
