Hi,
I was diagnosed Type 2 last November and since March I have been on the following Medication;
Morning - 2x500mg Metformine and 1x80mg Glicazide.
Lunchtime - 1/2x 80mg Gliclazide.
Evening - 2x500mg Metformine and 1x80mg Glicazide.

My BG average over the last 90 days;
Wake Up = 6.4mmol/l lowest = 4.9mmol/l, Highest = 8.3mmol/l
After Lunch = 10.1mmol/l, lowest = 7.5mmol/l, Highest = 18.4mmol/l
After Dinner = 7.7 mmol/l lowest = 7.2mmol/l, Highest = 12.1mmol/l

My last Hba1c test on the 11 April 2010 = 6.7%
Cholesterol = 4.9

My weight is 59.0Kgs or 9 stone 4 Pound, Height 5' 4'' so i am not overweight.

Are these BGs OK or should I hassle my Diabetic Nurse about further medication?

Are you on a low carb/low GI diet and strict with it. If so your levels should be much lower. Don't rely on meds to sort you out !!!! Best advice I wasa ever given was don't eat fruit between meals but only with a meal so it doesn't spike your blood sugar

Yes, I try to keep to Low GI low Carb foods, but as I am Male and my weight is 57-59 Kg, my dietician has told me I need to increase my calorie intake by 300 per day. For example my breakfast is a bowl of porridge oats and 2 slices of Rye Bread with olive spread, after around 2.5hrs later my BG will have gone from around 7.5mmol at wake up to 12.5-13.0mmol.

Personally I would up the fats. Lots of full fat lovely cheese and lots of nuts. I would say that porridge AND rye bread was too much in one meal. You could have had porridge and a full cooked breakfast minus the hash browns and baked beans which have too much sugar in the sauce but bacon, sausage, eggs, black pudding(not sure how much carbs in that) tomato , mushrooms would be good. Try that and report back on your readings.

I presume you are small boned and have always been slim so it is in your genetics. I HATE it when Type 2 is only associated with obese people!!!

So do I :mrgreen: I have posted before about Calogen to put weight on. It is only available on prescription. Worth having a look at my post .It is working for me. CAROL

I agree with above I would keep away from porridge if you can for breakfast especially with bread. I have been getting readings of 6 - 6.5 after a cooked breakfast, but yesterday as an experiment (I was only diagnosed a few weeks ago so still in that "experimental" stage) I tried a bowl of natural porridge without any additives and my reading shot up to 12.5 too.

Try sprinkling some cinammon powder over your porridge next time, then take a reading 2 hours later and see if there is any improvement. There should be
