I was told that my problem was caused by my sugar being to high the person who told me this was the diabetic nurse at the surgery today because i went to get the latest result for my hb1c
i told I know I eat cakes jam and pudding occasionally but it’s my only vice, and my moods are drive by stress I have an autistc son (25) and a brother in law living with me with lung cancer(time limiting) I asked if the metformin caused my problems and could she change it her reply was no because my problem are emotional…. I was stressed enough. But surely having occasional uncontrolled accidents is stressful to

Feel the pain of what you are going through. I do understand how you must be feeling living in a fairly similar situation myself. I can only add that Metformin had an horrendous reaction on me too, not only the diarrhoea, but I had blurred vision, and altogether felt spaced out. I literally took just 3 tablets. Luckily I found this forum and have been helped by the kind and helpful people here into reducing my carbs drastically. We're all different, some people think Metformin is great, but for me, I just couldn't hack it. For three years now I've managed to control my T2 Diabetes through diet, with my GP and DN being happy about it. Good Luck!

I have no experience of metformin myself but many people have reported exactly what you describe. It';s identified as a side-effect in the Handbook of Diabetes. I understand there is a slow-release version that might help - but if your DN is not co-operative and unaware of side effects - that is an additional problem

Metformin caused awful problems for me too. The final straw was an accident while I was out. I swore I would never take it again and told my diabetic nurse that a week later. There are alternatives out there and many of them will work better than Metformin.

if you can reduce the carbs in your diet then that should help more than any medication. If you fancy pudding how about treating yourself to strawberries, raspberries and cream. That won’t raise your blood sugar. You can also make or buy low carb cake. I’ve recently bought a nice cake mix from an online company called groovy keto. Easy to make and tasted good.

Metformin also gave me horrendous toilet problems. Was lucky that I was always at home when it would happen, but that was more luck than judgement.
Since I’ve stopped taking it my bowels are back to normal.
I think your Diabetic Nurse is delusional, so many have problems with it.

The Metformin will do nothing to combat the sugar from your cakes and jam or anything else you eat. It's not insulin it does not remove any sugar from your blood, it's main function is to limit the amount of stored glucose released by your liver. On average it seems that Metformin will lower your hba1c by a massive 1.5% , if you're one of the unfortunates who suffer the more unpleasant side effects, the benefits hardly seem worth it.
We can't give medical advice but I can tell you what I did. Metformin side effects made my life unbearable so I chucked them all in the bin and cut a few more carbs from my diet. Medication is supposed to make our lives better not worse, your nurse can not force you to take any drugs, no one can. Medical professionals can advise us about our treatment but the final decision is yours.
Ps
A quick Google search will provide you with lots of low carb cake and dessert recipes, you can even make jam with strawberries and chia seeds I believe.
