A long one - but there are chapter links to the bits you may be interested in. Layne is a bit of a "controversial" person in the diet/nutrition/fitness world. Mainly because he refutes much of the mantra which is spouted on the intrawebs by people trying to sell you stuff. He does this by referring to actual science, and peer review studies and meta-analysis of multiple studies. His background is in biochemistry as an undergraduate, and PhD in nutrition in his postgraduate. To his credit, he looks at both sides of the story and is happy to change his mind when new sciences proves otherwise. He has his own. YouTube channel too if you want to have a look. The only thing he "sells" is online coaching, and a dieting app which supports and helps follow whatever eating methodology you want.

Yes, he's an excellent interviewer. Calm, collected, doesn't interrupt, and actually does some in-depth research before interviewing the person and even reads their book if they have written one.

He actually interviews people rather than debates them.

Been aware of Layne for over a decade but, having never been interested in bodybuilding, I never bothered checking him out. But I recently started reading his stuff, and realised how many things he shares are things I agree with. Since then, I've watched quite a few of his interviews/appearances Rich Roll, Peter Attia, Dr. Mike and this one). Of all of them, this was my least favourite. It wasn't so much that the questions were bad, but many were about things that can't be answered so succinctly. This led to a lot of rushed answers, making the whole thing a bit of a mess. i felt the other interviews were better.

Of the other interviews I watched, i think the episodes with Peter Attia are the best. More technical, in places, but still many gems to be had. The second episode is probably the most accessible for the general public.

This first episode is audio-only:
