Hi
I am a type 1 Diabetic with really awful spelling so please bear with me Lol.
I have been diabetic for 25 years now so I do kinda know how it works. I use the basil bolus scheme and inject 18 units of Lantus glargine at tea time (24 hourly) and regular (when needed) injections of Humalog 100 U/ml. I wanted to ask if anyone has any advice for me. I have been dieting and excersising for 3 weeks now, I weighed 143Lbs and am 5'3 I ve managed to drop a dress size which is good
. I power walk and jog roughly 2 miles a day 5 times a week. I have lowered my calorie and carb intake by completely cutting out starchy carbs, ... bread, pasta, rice and pastry. I am eating lots of fresh veg, fish, some meats but not that often, salad and tinned fruit in juice. I am aware there is a lot of natural sugars in fruit but I dont want to rule out all foods I enjoy. I also have not ruled out fibrous cerials eg albran.
I noticed in the first 10 days or so my insulin intake could be cut considerably. However over the past few days my sugars have been high and yet my routine has remained the same. The first 10 days or so I was running at between a reading of 5 and 8 and now it s shot up to between 14 and even 20 at worst. I test regulaly so I can bring it under control in good time but I dont want to be taking lots of insulin again. Does anyone have any ideas or experiances that may explain why this is happening only I need to keep at it and I dont want this to hinder me because excersise is so much harder when I run at levels like this not to mention my motivation takes a dive which I really dont need.
Any advice would be great thanx guys .
