diet.. any feedback would be good.

What have been the times of your hypo's?
Bedtime?
2-3 hours after eating?

What meal s have you ate in past two days?
Share with us what you have ate and we know your doses, so we may be able to help you along with suggestions of what we would do if we were in your shoes.

The person I know who goes to WW got admitted to hosp on Mon after faking an attempted suicide.... He was taken to a ward eventually (wasting nhs money) and then whilst his expartner was there changed his clothing. This expartner told me he was so thin that he looked like he was in a POW camp and the biggest thing about him was his eyes bulging out. So this is proof that WW can certainly work !!-(detrimentally as you are not meant to go under weight!)

I would let us know what you had and the times for your food, and then we may be able to suggest help before giving up WW.

The hypos were after lunch. It was 5 hours after eating.
I had cereal for breakfast with milk and 13 units of novorapid..(usually before ww I had 17)
then ww soup and a slice of bread and 16 units of novorapid(usually I had 18)
had the hypo after lunch and treated it with some glucoze drink(tiny amount) and 2 glucoze tablets and a slice of wholemeal bread.
Then It swung into 16.3 as I over treated it.I paniced a bit and gave myself some extra insulin novo rapid 20 units instead of the usual 18 as it was so high .Then I had a weihtwatchers meal (curry and rice with carrots and green beans),a strawberyy yoghurt with 4 strawberries and then bedtime (midnight)it had gone down to 9.8 I gave myself 56 units of slow acting insulin (instead of the usual 62)at 3am it was 8.8 and this morning was 7.2 at 7.30am.I am just about to have 2 eggs and a slice of bread which in theory I think is only 15g of carbs so only should have 1 unit of insulin to cover that, (this seems a lot less than my usual pre ww dose of 18)but as I am high b sugar I reallly am confused what dose to have so going to have 14 units and see what this forum members advise I should have done?I think I have maybe my slow acting slightly too low and am querying if you agree.. and if the fast acting needs to be 2 or what dose it should be to cover my breakfast and my high blood sugar...?any help you can give me would be much appreciated.

hi

i PERSONALY WOULD DO MY OWN DIETING AND LOOK ON INTERNET TO SEE WHAT CARBS ECT ARE LOW AND HIGH , I HAVE BEEN TO WW BEFORE DIABETIES , AND I THINK ITS OK IN GENERAL IF YOU HAVENO PROBS AND YOU JUST WANT TO EAT A BIT OF EVERYTHING , BUT IT IS OF COURSE YOUR CHOICE , BUT TRY INTERNET FOR LOW RECIPES AND GOOD FOOD ,

GOOD LUCK

All pre packed bread has carbs per slice I think on it.. Some home brands ones such as Lidls may not though.

If its WW bread I havent got a clue on the carbs for this but would imagine it would be sonewhere betwwen 13-15g so this does work out to be 1unit of insulin. Eggs dont really count, unless you're weighing up fat n protein etc... Which is way OTT for someone to grasping carb counting.

It does initially make you think hey, thats not enough insulin.. But there is a hige difference between 1 slice of bread and cereal with milk.... For both carbs and insulin.

Your overnight levels were good. Your hypo after lunch would suggest that you could try the same lunch meal again and lower your dose a unit... Must confess I need to look back to see what your lunch and insulin was though to advise what I would do in your scenario.

Will sign off to have a look... Looks like you are doing pretty good. A hypo and rebound etc tbh is pretty common when trying new diet styles, so dont let that put you off...

You'll get there.. Rome wasnt built in a day!!

Will be intersting to hear what 14 units did!! I would have been hypo!!!

Do you have a snack between meals??

Waking up in the 7's is good start to a day....the worst thing is liws during the night and whikst trying to change lifestyle and foods... 7 waking up is very good.

How has to day panned out?

I sometimes do and it depends how hungry or busy I am.I find I am needing a couple of cream crackers and small glass of milk before bed as am hungry..

Thanks for your imput..my diabetic nurse said the early morning and the fact that doses and results are going down shows I am going in the right direction. Thanks for the encouragement. Its maddening though isnt it that they dont really advise you properly and you have to master it more yourself. But I am feeling a lot more in control of it than yesterday.

I have tried to do it on my own.. I have always followed quite healthy diet and counted calories..but since going on insulin I have blown up.. I am 3 sizes bigger and now weigh 3 stone more than when I was first diagnosed. Was put on weightwatchers diet by my diabetic nurse and gp., they pay for it for 16 weeks in my area..I think it was a cheaper option than sending me to a dietician. Thanks for your reply.I am looking at this site for some recipes and to extend my options to what I can eat healthily.

So how have levels, food and insulin been today? How did your morning toast and insulin work out?

after breakfast was 8.4 after the toast and egg(had 14 units)
this went down to 6.2 before lunch (had 8)
my before dinner one was 9.1(had 7)
Tested now just before going to bed and its 11.8
just had some 2crackers and small glass of milk
going to give myself the usual 62 of lantus the diabetic nurse suggested.and taken my sitgliptin..and see how low it goes by morning.Have felt slightly better .

Good... Those levels are pretty even without too many swings...flyctuations frim lows to highs etc can really make you feel unwell.

You will feel better and less stressed and worried as your levels even out. Well done!!

managed to loose a pound and a half in the first week..and yes have tried to keep my levels a bit more even.. as when it went from low to high I did feel so ill. Its hard isnt it as its so tempting to over treat a hypo...but at least now have been given advice and understand a bit more what to do..thanks for your help.

Well done on lossing the weight.. That is a great start..

Over treating hypos is so easy to do..I generally take 7 dolly mixtures.. Trouble is I love them and they are mainly a treat to me... So sometimes ending up having 10.. But that qty I know will throw my levels up too high...

Big swings are definitely worth avoiding if at all possible.
