Isn't that a contradiction?
 
I have a bit of a thing about carrot and tomato. I don't like them together. The flavours are wrong somehow.

Also, I've always wanted to eat off a blue plate. Someone once told me that 'there is no blue food, so all food contrasts well against a blue background'. So of course I want to try it!

For special occasions and weekends, not everyday use!
 
I drink Rooibos tea all the time. It keeps me hydrated and it's caffeine free.
Cheers, Spiker. I hadn't heard of it before, but picked up some today. Tetley rooibos and vanilla. It tastes like a Yankee candle, but I like it! :hungry:

LOL you know what I mean! Give it a try....no milk or sugar required as it is so sweet (and candley)
 
Don't buy Kosher or Halal on principal.
Don't eat any grains, feel much better for that.
Luckily, we are in a position to grow or raise virtually all our own food - but that actually takes a lot of a hard work too. Its not just the growing of the stuff, its the picking and processing - beans all need topping and tailing before going in the freezer, peppers all need slicing and freezing, toms need de-skinning and bottling, beans for drying all need harvesting and podding etc. etc.
Eggs from the chooks.
Meat - chickens and rabbits, possibly pigeon next year too. Pork and lamb from local farm.
Basically I like my animals to have been happy and healthy.
Try to avoid stuff that incurs transport or air miles, if I can produce it myself I do, even if the product can be bought cheaply I can't justify buying it, specially if it has travelled half way round the world, if I am perfectly capable of growing it myself.
I will not eat Halal - I think the slaughter carried out is barbaric, and I dislike thinking that animals should be badly treated.
 
I am happy for all of you who can buy expensive food, and eat it on beautiful plates.
I think many people have big difficulties in finding food on their budgets. Fortunately there are food banks - but these seem to be extremely busy and well used. I also suspect that if you are hungry - and I mean hungry after not eating because you do not have food - then you dont really care where your food came from, or what the ingredients are. All you are interested in is filling the hole in your stomach.
As for myself, I use the supermarkets for packs, cans and cleaning materials. I will use Morrison's fish counter - their fish looks good, and appears well sourced. It is certainly fresh and tasty. I like to have fish regularly - sometimes once each day of the week. I watch cost - but find mackerel, herring, sardines are good value - and look for the offers - mussels, octopus, squid, bream, hake and gurnard. Although I enjoy red meat, I restrict the amount I eat.
I am lucky in having a good street market that is reasonable. The traders cannot sell expensive items which rules out items that have a large carbon footprint. I like purchasing goods that are in season - somehow the flavour is better. Veg and fuit is great - but you need a preparation space to make soups and salads. I love beetroot soups - that is a very filling vegetable - but needs time to cook. It does not look so good on blue plates ;-)
I am not a great lover of restaurants. They make dishes that I can make both much better and cheaper. I love Italian food - but restaurants give helpings that well exceed the amount of carbohydrate that I wish to consume.
I think we all should be aware of the nutritional value of food, and we should be responsible for eating a well balanced nutritious diet. Sadly there are too many people who find it difficult to fund the time, and/or the money, and/or have difficulty in preparing the food.
 
I prefer not to have kosher or halal meat because it's cruel and therefore the animals will have released fear hormones before they died and so I don't fancy eating the meat killed in this way as I don't think it can be as healthy. I normally buy the best ingredients I can afford at the time. I am quite a fussy eater so that restricts me somewhat already so I daren't put any more restrictions on what I buy or the choice would be extremely limited.

You may well be still eating it if you buy your meat from a supermarket, there was a programme on tv a month or two back saying that Halal meat is routinely being sold in shops.......... yet isn't labelled as such.

Yes very true, I accept that sometimes I will be buying it, but I try to do my best not to.
