Hi everyone, been lurking for a few days and thought I would jump in with a question. Have just started low carbing (again) to hopefully regain control of my BG levels, my question is I drink a lot of no added sugar (low calorie) diet lemonade and diet cloudy lemonade. While I drink this through the day I am not drinking coffee with milk.......I struggle to cut the milk out. Is there something I am missing thinking these *diet* are ok to be drinking.

Thanks

Welcome to the Forum Louismum,

Check the labels on the bottles and look for sweetners that end in ' ose' or 'ole' these are types of sugars that can affect your blood sugar levels. Check the labels for carbohydrate total and see if there are any.

A lot of Diabetics can drink 'diet' drinks without any affect .

As for milk, taken in small quantities it does not have much affect on Bg levels. I would not give up my cups of Tea ! :D

Thankyou Sue, I know the ones I drink are low carb but am not sure what sweeteners are used, I will check my bottles now.

Unless you like your tea and coffee really milky, having milk in your favorite brew will have a negligible effect on bg throughout the day.

I drink diet drinks Pepsi/Coke/Lemonade etc when I am out or at home, however it is all in moderation.....maximum of 2 cans at any one time. Has absolutely NO effect on BG levels.....just me.

Thankyou for your input everyone, its just I have been reading, not nessesarily on this forum that fizzy drinks, low cal or not are bad for you.

What I started doing last week was buying a net of lemons (unwaxed) cutting them all in half and putting them in a jug then topping up with boiled water, as I drink it throughout the day I keep topping up with boiled water.

Also I have been having a couple of beef oxo cubes in a big mug when I feel peckish, dont think this is too high carb.

There is stuff on here about too many diet drinks can cause harm, mainly because of some of the ingredients used, usually Aspartame however, there is 2 sides to every story. In moderation there shouldn't be a problem. Some though think they are all poison ! Not me.

I posted about the matter recently. Pays to keep things in perspective....... :|

Thanks cugila, I think those are the stories that cause the concern ......like you say keep things in perspective

Well you can't deny reports made by Panorama some while back which I have already posted on here previously.
The trials were completely fraudulent and I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole!!!

Yes, we know foxglove.
However your post is in the link I posted. We like to give BOTH sides of the story......... :|
