Dietician

I thought of you a couple of weeks ago Sarah. I had gone through a good spell of not only low carbing, but also cutting out cow's dairy (which I love) and any wheat or bread products at all (I rarely ate those anyway, but the odd Lidl roll came in very helpful when I was travelling) Then, quite suddenly I didn't fancy eating anything at all and that's when I thought of you and your problems. I carried on with the low carb, and also the new restrictions to my diet but really didn't want to eat. It took about a week to get through that phase, just eating good food because I needed to, not because I wanted to. I think I understand you a little more now, but as most of the others have said until you simply stop eating the junk and start eating good nutritious food, then nothing will change.

Oh and for the record I am not taking metformin, so that wasn't the reason for me. You can do this, step by step, adding a few good things and taking away a few bad until your diet is totally transformed.

So just accept it. Accept that you are not going to change your eating habits. Accept that you are going to eat what you want, regardless of the physical health issues. Its your choice. There is nothing wrong with you making that choice. Nothing at all.

However, asking others to help you make different choices, or make you change your mind, isnt going to work. e cant make your choices for you, and enforce them.

You may think you have no choice, your taste buds are the way they are, and you are a victim of them. That belief is also your choice.

There is no point in continuing to ask for advice or seeing professionals to change that. They and we cant change anything for you. I wish you well in your future.

I bought a prepacked salad a few weeks ago and though that would make a change to take to work, so I added ham to it. When I had it at work then next day it was the most boring tasteless thing i'd eaten in a long time!!

I agree with you that a pre-packed salad is pretty tasteless.
However, adding a splash of chilli sauce can sort that out. I have colleagues with a bottle of something like Piri Piri sauce on their desk (amongst their files, phone and computer) to dollop out onto anything that is a little bland.
I don't each meat which can pose a few issues on some holidays: one year, I went to Central America and ate beans and rice for lunch most days (I think I had rice and beans one day). A bit monotonous but the local spicy sauce meant it was far from tasteless.

Hi. Metformin is irrelevant to your problem. It suppresses the appetite and can change taste. Reducing it will make your situation even worse not better. Stay with chocolate but only buy 85% Dark chocolate and get used to the taste. Never buy anything less than 85%. Carbs are addictive and you are addicted. We have all had to break the carb habit and you need to find a way to do the same. Do it gradually by changing to non-carb foods such as cheese and nuts for snacks. Don't bring junk carbs into the house
