Hi everyone,

I'm looking both for support and advice. I work at a physical job at the moment and my blood sugar is 24. I have no energy to continue to work and feel rather frustrated. Blood sugars always frustrate me.

I have a terrible fear of going low, and for some reason don't like to decrease my basal at work. So, I take significantly less insulin that I need before working, take care what I eat (kinda) and somehow make it. I guess today I was quite badly off. I hate having no energy to work. I hate having to constantly juggle diabetes into everything. My problem is I just end up spending hours obsessing and worrying about my diabetes and do little to actually try to control it.

My A1C was 9.1 at last check. I'm ready, I think, to work on it. Tinnnny step at a time. I meet my dietitian next week and will put in a G5 sensor after work. I'll take all the support and advice I can get from you guys. Maybe a new attitude will help me too.

Thanks,
Rachel

Hello @Just_Me_Rachel - can you pinpoint what has caused your fear of going low ? This is something you need to start thinking about, obviously having hypos is inevitable for all of us, however you can control your BG levels better and not suffer bad hypo's, have you thought about trying the libre to watch your BG levels ? I appreciate it's an expense but to tackle those high BG levels and avoid going low it is a useful and accessible tool. Generally keeping in range and monitoring your BG levels carefully should help you manage better and you will have lots more energy, at the moment your body isn't utilising your glucose stores efficiently hence the tiredness. I would suggest getting in touch with your DSN and discussing this with them to see what support they can offer you, you would feel so much better if you could get better control during the day but dealing with your hypo anxiety could help you manage alot better too.

Stress can actually influence your blood sugar. I know what you are going through we all been there and its a process of falling down and getting up. Acceptance of course your life will never be the same again is different with each person. If you think you are drowning discuss it with your care team, most diabetic clinics have a psychologist/psychiatrist in their team. Dont feel ashamed to ask for their help as they can help you to come to terms with it all.

Hi, it can be hard, but we are not super human and we can only do the best we can. If you are using a pen, have you got a 1/2 unit pen, I have one and it is so beneficial, that extra 1/2 more, or less, can make such a difference.
Just take little steps, deep breaths and writing your fears/anxieties down, daily in a diary, can really help, also taking up something relaxing like yoga could also help. It's trying to get that happy medium, not high, not too low, but with some tweaking and a more positive approach to managing your diabetes, you will get better control, your mind and body will thank you for it x
Take good care :)
