Hi guys im just posting again about my travels on a lchf diet, now i have stabilised my blood sugars to an extent which im very happy about (5 months ago hbAc1 was 119 and todays HbAC1 was 46,diabetic nurse was happy)The major problem i am having is weight loss.I had originally lost 3.5 stone (I now weight 25stone) Diabetic nutse told he that I have gained half a stone in a few months which im very unhappy about as i have been eating between 30-40g carbs per day and have been fairly strict with everything else (i need to excercise more which is a work in progress)Its very hard not to be demotivated but i also need to figure out where i am going wrong or do i need to go down the 1000calorie a day path while trying to stay low carb?.Long story short is im happy with the direction my blood levels are heading i just wish my weight was going the same way:-(

I am giving you a trophy because of your excellent reduction of A1c and bg control. I have read that some people experience a stall in weight loss and that this is not uncommon. Please remember that good management of bg is more important than weight loss though I understand how a stall must be very frustrating and disheartening this must be.

I went from 85 Kg to 76 Kg quite quickly, losing about 0.5 Kg per week. However, I got stuck at around 76 Kg for several months. I stated shifting the weight again when I started intermittent fasting. I first reduced what I had for breakfast and then cut out breakfast altogether. Avoiding late night snacks also helped. I have now dropped to 71.5 Kg.

I now have a Nokia digital scale which connects to my iPhone and an Apple Watch which measures heart rate as well as steps. These help motivate me to be more active. I can see a lot of data in the Apple Health app including my glucose readings which I enter into mySugr

Thanks for all the great replies very much appreciated..I reckon im going to try a 16/8 intermittent fast a few days a week and see if that helps, again thanks all for the replies

I found that skipping breakfast along with ultra low carb really helped me. Certainly worth a try .
But don't be too hard on yourself HbA1c results are amazing and 3.5 stone gone is nothing to be sneezed at so give yourself a pat on the back and keep up the great work!

Well done on your hbac1 it’s key to get the blood sugars down and you’ve done so well. When I stalled on the weight loss after about 6 weeks on lCHF I did intermittent fasting went to diet doctor site and learnt how to from that site.. For a month I fasted from dinner to dinner and had a low carb meal it worked wonders for me and I could be quite lenient with the meal as only one meal a day. I also got lots of extra time not cooking or eating! Initially lost one pound a day and by end two to three pounds a week. I now intermittent fast two different days a week I quite enjoy it love the low blood sugars plus don’t feel hungry and if I do I have coffee with cream To keep me going. My bmi is now 23 and only want to lose a few more pounds and will continue with intermediate fasting until happy with my body. It’s all very personal though and it suited me but not everyone enjoys fasting - you need to experiment and find out what works best for you. You could always start by missing breakfast one day @nd see how it goes that’s what I did to start.

Please do not get down . You have done well on your bloods and you have lost weight

We are all different so my experience may or may not help. I thought my portion control of protein was worth a look and gradually reduced protein for 0.8 kilo of the weight I wanted to be but not worrying about calories . just restricting carbs ( but how much butter can you put on a lettuce leaf ). I also went to eating 16:8 and trying to finish before 6pm. I thought I was not drinking enough fluid so drink 1.5/2 litres a day I keep a food diary on a spread sheet and find that having to write down what I eat encourages me not to snack. My exercise is just walking so I try to walk for all short journeys rather than take the car and if I drive park as far as possible from the shops.

I think it is not unusual to plateau I lost steadily about a pound or 2 a week to 13 stone then stuck there for a month, I dropped 7lbs ( in a week ) stuck again and for 2 months stuck at 12 and half stone and then 7lbs in a week and now I am stuck at 12 stone and have been stuck there for many months. I have decided that as long as blood sugars are OK then I try not to worry too much.

I lost weight once I was getting down to a normal Hba1c, but I also found that fasting was not the way to go for me as my BG levels rise if I do not eat early on, so for me having two meals well spaced with a small amount of carbs in the morning and the main amount later on is what works best. Try different things and see if there is something which will help you lose weight. I was just looking for the way which kept my BG lowest, but that seemed to be best for weightloss too. I am not trying to lose weight, it just goes when I am eating about 40 to 50 gm of cabs a day, but I am not strict, some days I might go up to 60gm, but next day it is down to 40, just to be sure things stay on an even keel.

Appreciate all the great advice given,it has certainly given me food for thought (excuse the pun) and has certainly lifted my outlook and i am very grateful for that:-)
