I've been struggling with my diabetes since diagnosis 9 years ago. Since I caught covid back in December I have had problems with my eyes and now my legs and feet. I have nursed patients with covid and seen all my staff including myself catch covid. Since getting covid I have had problems with diabetes regarding my high blood sugars then Maculopathy diagnosis then trouble with my legs and feet unable to walk. Waiting on results from my nerve conduction tests. Been off work for a month now, still suffering unable to walk anywhere. I'm only 37 and I feel old.

I had my diabetes appointment today. Was expecting to speak to my consultant but I got to talk to a specialist nurse. Told the nurse how I was and got nothing back. We need more specialist support.
Just feel let down and disappointed in regards to the NHS. I can't understand why NHS staff and nurses are leaving their professional.

I'm sorry you had what felt like a wasted appointment. Our DN's with the hospital team are fantastically good. My GP practice nurse sounds more like your experience.

Last sentence was supposed to say I can understand why us health care professionals are leaving the NHS. Worked like dogs. Apologise in advance, this maybe edited again.

Sorry you are off work and feeling so bad. The specialist nurses are usually very good at the practicalities of diabetes0 like for example how to manage ongoing illness coupled with what sounds like worry about neuropathy?
I know that in my area our tier 3 diabetic nurse is off sick with stress, not helped by the covid disruption I am sure, but because the hospital in leafy Surrey struggles to recruit Diabetes Specialist Nurses.
I can only hope that you can find the energy to focus in on doing things to help your body heal whilst you're off sick. This could just be 'burn out' with a side order of continued inflammation from infection/vaccination. We type 1s really know in our bodies when something's not right because the glucometer tells us. You probably already know more about your own diabetes but I would be pushy about talking to the tier 3 consultant to see what the blood work shows.
