We were in Ireland for christmas and I definitely was a bold girl. It's hard to control everything when you are at someone elses house. I must pull myself back together again. I was thinking of starting a new exercise regime. Anybody have any tips for me what exercise is good and how long to do it each day etc. Thanks so much, Hope everyone is well and having a nice holiday :-)

Hi, glad you enjoyed Ireland ! As for exercise, the best one is the one you'll stick with. Is there anything you particularly enjoy ? Zumba ? Cycling ? A regular walk ? Try to pick something that is not weather dependant. 30mins every other day is a good start. Good luck ! Mo

Start with walking, 30 minutes on day 1 and build up from there. A good brisk walk which gets your heart beating and a slight "glow" in your face, else its not worth doing. This is free, there are no contracts to try and exit, what more could you wish for ?
Enjoy !

Exercise is great in so many ways.

Personally I think you can't beat walking. Take the dog out (or someone else's) for an hour plus everyday if you can, I was out earlier for a good walk and come back in fully refreshed, whatever exercise you choose just make sure you enjoy it or you'll soon give-up.

I think exercise is much like diet :) we all like different things. Personally I like going to the gym, I can get company and support there, I have built up a friendship with other users, and I want to get my money's worth out of it. I can go walking even if it is raining or snowing, and still be in a T Shirt. BUT I also like to go for walks outside, I live in a particularly beautiful part of the country, on the lower stretches of the wye valley, bordering on the forest of dean. So I get the best of both worlds, indoors and out.

One thing I would say though, is start slow. Do a little at a time and build up. If you go to a gym use the instructors to work out a program for you, make sure they know any medical issues, and enjoy yourself.

Dont worry about Christmas, just get yourself in a good place for next year :jimlad:

Any exercise is good provided you actually get on and do it. As everyone says walking is good, at least 30 mins and at a pace where you are breahting hard but still able to hold a conversation. This may seem difficult at first if you have not exer ised for a long time but it quickly becomes easier, once it does try adding in some other exercise, or having a couple of two minute bursts of speed walking in your normal walks ( just speed up enough to raise your heart rate and perhaps break a sweat or find conversation difficult).

It can actually become quite addictive. I started exercising again back in April this year, walking and using the rower initially, then quickly adding in cycling and kayaking, and now I do weight training too. I'd love to do some running and go back to climbing too but I still have a worn out knee joint so I need to do low impact sports.

Basically just do what you are happy and able to do, and don't talk yourself out of it.
