I do not have diabetes
Thanks for all the support. I've only been diagnosed for approximately 8 weeks. I was admitted to hospital with a big of 39.1. Since then I've changed my diet, my exercise regime and this has helped me loose 14kgs (too much apparently). I've been using my bg meter to monitor and identify what causes spikes (like I said earlier apparently this is also wrong). I actually feel so much better, so much more energy! Yes I have low days when I miss something, but I just put it on my treat list. I've already lost 33% of the weight I need too, to reach my goal. And yes maybe later I nay ned to increase carbs to reduce the weight loss, but the negativity I recieved today totally blew me away. I'm going to carry on, listen to my friends on here, you all understand the issues as you are also sufferers. Most health staff read a book and try to tell us what they think they have understood from it.
Thank you all, I'm now feeling stronger and more determined to continue on MY route to improve My health.

Don’t be disillusioned at all, the weight loss is great news, congratulations.
Doctors give out terrible advice all the time. The one that drives me mad is the BG, the reason they tell you not to test is because the blood glucose strips cost £25 for a packet. I generally use the approach of crying till they give me the quantity I want, I test 5 times a day at a minimum, but I find it works for me.
Keep your chin up, it will get easier.
Good luck

I only go to the docs for a check up and prescriptions, in my opinion the best advise is listen to people that have diabetics and how they control it and learn from them. If I get asked I say eat and test eat and test and you will find what is right for you.

One persons's carb is another person's poison..So try it and prick....

Most of you remember Clunk Click every trip. Well with us it should be. Eat and Prick after every meal

I went for my yearly check up, armed with a copy of the report published by southportdr and she was so pleased. Said she would pass it on but also keep a copy as her husband had just been diagnosed. She's seen what a difference its made to me. I'm just gutted she's now retiring! Best DN I've met.

I think you will find a lot of 'specialist nurses' and doctors giving you outdated advice. I was started on Insulin last October after 14 years on oral medication and told to eat lots of carbs!?!
I did the opposite after reading the posts on here and reduced my HBA1C and my weight dramatically and now feel 100% better. It's really hard to make those decisions when you are not guided the right way by your healthcare professionals. I also turned to holistic treatment to deal with everything emotionally and have managed to come off the sleeping tablets and halve the antidepressants I was prescribed. I had a really tough time accepting the fact I would now have to inject for the rest of my life but with the help of this forum and my holistic therapist I have come out the other side.
Good luck to all!

Congratulations on your weight lose, your life style changes and BG control it is awesome!

They should give you a frikin medal and award and parade you out to all the diabetics that they 'complain' about that are not in compliance and are too heavy, with no exercise and out of control BG.

My suggestion is keep testing like crazy, and follow what is working for you and try to get as normal non spiking blood sugars as possible. When they cite to you studies about too normal of blood sugar doesn't increase your life expectancy or reduce diabetic related diseases don't believe them instead read Jenny Rhul's books and web site http://www.bloodsugar101.com and she critiques many of those studies and comes to different conclusions.

Time to go back and see my doctor and diabetic nurse with the results from my last Hba1c. This was done for my final (3 of 3) diabetic clinic. Everyone there was ecstatic with my results, Hba1c reduced from 103 to 54, 14 kgs lost, cholesterol down by .2 (still a bit high on all) but this has all been achieved by a lifestyle change and using my bg monitoring kit to understand how different foods effect me. Feeling quite chuffed with myself at my results in such a short time. Now I can stick it to my doctor and diabetic nurse as I look for a diabetes sympathetic surgery for my future care.

Fantastic commitment Mark. You remind me and give me hope that it is possible to survive power crazed medics!
