I've been type 1 for 7 months since I had DKA, I was never taught how to check for ketones so as long as by BG stays normal should I not be worried about getting DKA again

I am not aware of any recommendation to check ketones unless you have unexplained high BG (i.e. there is no need to check for ketones if your BG is high after you've had a gallon of lucozade).

And as long your BG are normal, you do not need to worry about DKA.

I was given a monitor to test for ketones when I was diagnosed. At first I was told to test if my levels hit 18 but now I'm told to test if they hit 15 ... But as someone else said it's only if the high blood sugars are unexplained. As my dsn said: "if your sugars are high and you recently rammed a Mars bar down your throat then you're fine and don't need to check for ketones"
