I have had this once b4 when I lost my appetite and stopped eating. Do you have to have high bs to get DKA again. I have been feeling ill all week, my appetite hasn't been great but I've tried eating and I still feel bad, my bs has been ok highest 1 morning at 12 but usually under 10 but no lower than 7 throughout the day. Any help greatfully received.

I have just used a ketostix and it is ++ what does this mean please?

Have a look at the colour coding on the bottle to determine the level of keytones and act accordingly.

Hi Sarah,

It depends on the sticks you are using, but I would imagine that anything that says ++ means you have ketones. It is possible to get DKA without high sugars, but it is quite uncommon. I'd call your doctor or NHS direct just to be safe. Keep testing regularly and take care.

Thanx I called a DSN and she's given me advice on wat to do.
