Hi, I live in Queensland Australia and when the law changed here so that I had to have a Medical certificate signed every 2 years, I was annoyed. However, when I looked into it further, I found out the law was called "Jet' s Law" after a young boy (Jet) was killed and his mother and brother were seriously injured when a driver of another vehicle was having a 'hypo' and crashed into their car. I'm looking further into our laws, the legislation actually states for a lot of Medical conditions, how frequently the person requires a new Medical certificate. For example, I am also monovisioned (blind in left eye). I have to a renewed med cert every 2 years for a car licen've but every year if I drive a truck/bus. Maybe you should all lobby for legislation similar.
