Do brief spikes matter

Yesterday, I broke my 14 hour fast by eating 2 greenish bananas and a handful of grapes. After 1 hour I was up to 11. After two hours I was down to 7 and remained between 5 and 7 for the rest of the day. Do temporary, short lived spikes matter? My non d partner

My non d partner spikes to 9 sometimes. Is it a problem if it only lasts 30 mins?

You were lucky to get readings as low as 11 & 7 but I have read that green bananas are lower carb. Bananas & grapes are no no's for most of us type 2's, grapes are very high in natural sugar, if I eat one I go to 18/20 so avoid them. Either you can tolerate green bananas or you were very luck

Even non diabetics can have quite high BG levels depending on what they eat even into double figures is not unusual if it is a high carb meal or something very sugary so your partner is pretty normal especially as the spike only last 30 minutes or so

I would say its fine but just make sure you keep a eye on it, I used to be able to do that, then it started to take longer for my levels to fall, so much so that the last time I "pushed the boat out" at my mums birthday meal (full sunday lunch etc) it took 4/5 days for my bloods to drop to normal............

Its great you are testing and as long as it is dropping back to acceptable levels then it is fine but beware that it may change down the track so try not to get complacent.
