Do I have diabetes?

hi,

I am new to the forums and I just have a question if anyone could answer it (someone that does know about the normal glucose (GLU) range in normal blood test for Glucose - for a diabetes diagnose. I have terrible dizziness and loss of balance along with many other symptoms which I attribute to Lyme Disease and several other conditions that I have been diagnosed with such as cervical spondilosys and sinusitis ...

but... now I am confused... I have been reading this on a website earlier ...

FPG blood sugar number is considering normal up to 100 mg/dl (or 5.5 mmol/L).

FPG Levels between 110 and 125 (6.1 to 6.9 mmol/L) are considering impaired fasting glucose (pre-diabetes). It is slightly higher than normal but not high enough to diagnose as diabetes.

FPG level of 126 mg/dL (7.0 mmol/L) or higher absorbed on two different days are confirmed as diabetes.

diabetics on treatment should plan to achieve between 90 and 130 mg/dL (5 mmol/L to 7.2 mmol/L).

On my last GLU test (blood glucose) my numbers are quite increased, I am not sure if I did the fasting but I think I had some Glucose put on my blood. The test was done at 4 AM in Emergency and I ate quite a bit in that day, so my stomach was pretty full.

My numbers are definitely increased 129 mg/dL (7.1 7.1 mmol/l)

Do my number show a sign of diabetes? Should I be concerned? I have no one in my family with diabetes. I am going to redo the tests on Monday. Please if anyone could let me know what tests should I order? (I am going to a private lab).

Does anyone have any suggestions?

hugs

Alex

Hi alex. Not sure why you are planning to go to a private lab. I think you need to go to your GP and tell him your concerns, he will do a number of tests to confirm one way or the other. We are not doctors on the forum, and it would be unwise for us to try and diagnose your problems. If you need to go to a private lab they should know what tests are required.

Hello Alex. are you in the UK?

You need the input of a doctor to diagnose any Diabetes and offer treatment if needed. We can help with support and general advice and shared experiences, but not medical diagnosis and things.

Best wishes, Lucy.

hi lucy & everyone ...

I thought someone could help me with these numbers, not with an actual diagnose (I know that there are no doctors on the forums) but at least if someone could help me with these numbers.

I will be going to a private lab, because I currently have no insurance (I have to pay for my insurance soon) After the tests I will see my GP to see what she says about the results.

Thanks
Alex

I'm confused about the GP/private lab/insurance situation. Are you outside the UK? Most here are in the UK where anyone can go to a GP who can order the required tests. I'm in NZ which has a similar system. in NZ no lab, private or otherwise, will do blood tests without a Dr ordering them.

Blood tests done at 4am in Emergency are not reliable for diagnosing diabetes. Most people have slightly higher BG than normal if there are sick enough to be at Emergency.

I encourage you to see a Dr to get the correct tests ordered. Especially given your other medical conditions.

hi CatLady,

I am not in the UK, I am in Romania at the moment and the system is slightly different here. You can have tests done through a private lab without a GP's recommendation. The problem is that at the moment I do not have my insurance paid and I cannot benefit of the free testing.

Thanks

Well in that case I agree with what another poster said earlier - the lab should know what tests to do.
