..OR on the cusp of type 2 that is. Here are my results with the normal reference range on the far right in brackets. My glucose fasting is the only thing that came back abornmal BTW, yet my A1C is fine.
Glucose Fasting - A 6.7 - (3.3 - 5.5)
Hemoglobin A1C - 5.3 - (4.5 - 6.0) %
Creatine - 74 - (45 - 110) umol/L
Estimate GFR - 116 - (>=60)
I've been sick for almost 12 years and two doctors suspect intestinal permeability/leaky gut or a possible auto immune condition...
I plan on getting a lactulose and manitol liquid/urine based test to diagnose it soon but sopposably the test won't be accurate if the person has blood sugar problems or suffers from prediabeges or type 1 or type 2.

Hi
According to a1c results, this is a very good result As a result blood sugar is actually not under the desired target
If this repeats much this means that you will get a high percentage of results A1C
Generally there is no reason to worry
Just take several measurements of blood sugar
People w similar numbers and no diagnosis have benefited from buying a $10 BG meter and eliminating foods that spike them.
Your symptoms sound similar to a 31 yo woman who is not diabetic but is now eating as if she was and the stomach issue (and others) is resolving —life is so much better for her.
Practically everything you mentioned made me think thyroid, even if the numbers don't correspond. Honestly, there is no exact range with thyroidhormones to fall in... If my numbers are "perfect", I feel horrible. I need a tiny little bit more to crush the fatigue, flakey skin etc etc... Do you have an endo? And possibly a second opinion? Nails and skin can also be affected by deficiencies (Vitamin D, magnesium/calcium etc, all of which can occur with leaky gut...). It does sound pretty likely, leaky gut... Not sure if an at-home test would give conclusive results a doc would actually work with though. Still... It may be worth following a Heal Your Gut diet, see if it changes anything. (Focusses on thyroid, this book, but as leaky gut is a root cause, it's still useful : https://thyroidpharmacist.com/articles/importance-gut-health/ ). I did read people responded really well to a carnivore diet, which is all meat, all the time... Never tried it myself (Wouldn't be able to afford it. And would miss chocolate. Thanks for the response. Wellll, as far as symptoms go which have been going on for years and years would be awful insomnia(I have an easier time sleeping during the day unfortunately but even then its just ruthless. It's easily the worst symptom aside from losing a lot of muscle which has left me feeling incredibly insecure and super self concious.), I've lost at least 15-20 pounds of muscle, skin issues like eczema all over my face, very dry skin behind my ears, scalp...if I let it go and don't gently rub it off in a warm hot shower every day or other day it builds up and starts to itch and burn not to mention it looks awful as it progresses left untouched... It's like rubbing off yellow gunky dry skin, pretty gross!
Aside from that, bloating, digestive problems galore, bad constipation, fatigue, muscle weakness, even my nails look unhealthy. My knees are dry. I'm just a total mess. Looking back at the youthful age of almost 22, I felt and looked fantastic right before this happened and was at one of the happiest points in my life and had none of these issues. Yet i woke up one day during the beginning of my college years and I felt like utter garbage. My skin didn't look right, there was a noticable drop in muscle mass, my muscles felt weak, brain fog ect....I just didn't feel right. And it gradually got worse from there.
As for my diet I eat real whole foods 95% of the time and drink about 8 glasses of water a day. This includes fruit, veggies, meat, fish, eggs, nuts and seeds...while I typically stay away from grains and legumes. I make sure I get at least 2000 calories a day, 140 grams of protein, and healthy fats from avacado, coconut ect. I'm 5'9 and currently my weight is around 135-140pounds and i'm 34 years old. I'm at a higher body fat percentage than I'd like to be but I have to compensate for the muscle loss. Sigh.
I know there are people far worse off but I've let this entire ordeal road block most of my life. Leaving the house like this has been a giant obstacle mainly because of how much mass ive lost. The quality of life has gone down the tubes and I yern for the day it finally gets fixed where I can feel tired and go to sleep, for my muscle and skin to go back to normal ect ect. I just wish I had a template or diagnosis so I know for sure what to do, but I'm going in blind at this point and I'm stuck in limbo with it all.
As for blood work, there have been abnormalities throughout the doctor prodding ..my free T4 thyroid hormone has come back overactive (but my tsh is normal so I don't have hyperthyroid), my pituitary gland results have come back high and low, slightly high adrenal, ANA was positive with a high titre (but the speckle test came back normal), and now my fasting glucose is a little high. Mind you those thyroid and other test results have come back normal recently which is a little strange. t's left mainstream Dr's and specialists scratching their heads which has caused me to take the naturopath route but it's mostly been a miss.
I just want to know if it's leaky gut or not. And by doing that test and an antibody blood zonulin test I'll know for sure. The latter isn't neccasary if the first test comes back negative.
You have been through the wringer, eh.... I'm a little surprised you had to spend so much on the heavy metals thing, there's detox stuff for that... (Zeolite? Not sure if I translated that right.) Your glands could be knackered, but again, that's all part and parcel with leaky gut.... (From what I remember from the thyroid book). So I do think you're barking up the right tree, the more I read... I know bloodpanels are a pain, but get every test done that needs doing. You should get some answers from someone, anyone!Soo I picked up a metere, lancing and strips. I'm going to test myself Tues, Wed and Thursday morning after 8 hours of fasting to get a proper blood glucose reading. My A1C is already normal so if these readings come back normal as well I'm just going to get that lactulose and Manitol leaky gut test done asap and be done with it.
If it comes back positive than I have to do a blood zonalin antibody test. It's basically an essential companion test with the other above. If the former test comes back negative well than that means I don't have leaky gut and I can finally forget about it and stop talking about it all together. Either way it's a huge load off in my eyes! Leaky gut can be healed within 45 days according to Dr. John Bergman and Dr Eric berg. So while it IS and can be a serious problem if you let it slide for years on end and can cause a host of lousy symptoms at least it's treatable and doesn't take that long to fix.
And yup, I've heard about that carnivore diet. Part of the reason why it does help so many people is because your resittictjng yourself to 1 or 3 types of meat usually depending so you're cutting out other foods that could possibly by allergenic. It's also zero carb so you're constantly in a state of ketosis ect.
The leaky gut protocol is basically this. Only eat....
*healthy meats
*fish
*steamed veggies (except NO nightshades)
*coconut products(like the oil and meat)
*olive oil
*fermented veggies
*probiotics
*L-glutamine
All sugars need to be avoided, even the majority of fruits with the exception of berries, no nuts or seeds due to lectins, no grains or legumes, no dairy, processed foods obviously, alcohol ect ect. Heavily restrictive but if I have it then I have no problems pulling this off for almost two months. Give me a template to get better and it's on!
Hmm, used the One touch meter again after fasting for 8 hours prior to waking up. Ended up getting 5.6 this time, where as yesterday morning it was 5.2.
My wife is non diabetic. A close friend is the same.
Both saw numbers like 5.6
In a few weeks of low carbs, both brought numbers down to 4.8 or a bit lower.
Both feel physically much better
The “healthy” grains were causing issues.
Hang in there!
