Evening to you, I have the same question with no answer to give you, so I hope someone posts here. I do know that NSAID type pain killers are considered by many to be a risk for a db as they can set off a bleed, so I hope you're informed on that matter. I still can't get a definitive answer on whether taking aspirin to prevent heart attacks and strokes, which we're at risk of, can set off a bleed and what the risks vs benefits are. Hope I have not duplicated what you already know and that you find the answers that you seek, kind regard, Q..

I wish I knew too! Even my GP hasn't a clue if they make a difference to your BS. I have found personally, that when I have a flare-up, ie inflammation, my BS goes a bit awry, but whether the drugs taken to alleviate this are contributing to it or not, I'm afraid I'm as much in the dark as yourselves.
It would be nice to know one way or the other I suppose, not that I could stop taking them, but I do like to know as much about my health as possible.:angelic:

Have a read of this article which has compiled statistics on blood sugars when people were taking ibuprofen.

You also need to know if they interact with other medications that you may be taking. Use a site like this.

Ibuprofen can negatively affect people with high blood pressure and prolonged use can affect kidneys.

Hope this helps.

thankyou very much catherine

I do get the feeling that the system is slightly lacking in some areas and maybe diabetes needs more finance from the millionaires running the country.

thanks luna and q007 for your replies.

Should have said about the paracetamol. It is fine to take them as long as you do not exceed the dose prescribed. If you take too many they can affect your liver.

I was taking them over CHristmas for a head cold and didn't feel they adversely affected BG any more than the cold did.

Sudofed on the other hand, big effect in my case. I hadn't thought about it until I read the leaflet three days later. Of course it's an adrenaline mimic, and affects both BG and blood pressure so is contraindicated for both T1 and T2 diabetics

I'm interested, very, in how NSAIDS affect those with high blood pressure. I used to take Amlodipine for hypertension - but if I forgot to take it one day, I'd feel better in myself and then the next day when I remembered to take it felt lousy ( flu like symptoms). So, I did bit of digging on the web and found that its banned in Netherlands and other countries have it on watch. So I binned it and waited to see what happened to my blood pressure, ****** all really apart from evening / night time spikes of around 180/130 ( I take multiple readings to be sure). It's not every day this happens though. I take Ibuprofen on quite in fact very regular basis due to a failed dental implant that eventually will have to come out, so you got me wondering if it's the NSAIDS that maybe causing the BP spikes as the dental pain, as with all pain it seems, is worse at night.

Any thoughts please?

Thanks for your replies.

Its too early for me to help you Q007, I'm still wondering about my 2. But it is interesting reading on other threads where the type 2 on metformin can actually not have to take it in the end. Perhaps pain triggers anxiety and then inturn raises your heart beats?

Having suffered from quite bad nerve related pain due to arthritis for many years pre and post diabetes I have taken most types of pain killing drugs both over the counter and prescription and cant say that any of them have caused a rise in bg levels that I can recall.

Thank you Sid, I thought that may be the case but also wondered about the side effects.
