I had reason to go onto the www.diabetesmatters.co.uk website today for some info, when I noticed Sanofi mentioning a new meter. It's called the MyStar Extra meter, which as well as the usual readings database, makes a calculation to approximate a running HBa1c score, and some fasting trends. It appears to offer something extra.I know we can use various websites to convert averages to potential HBa1c scores, but nice to have it in a personal meter.

There is no price yet, as I don't believe it has been formally, commercially, launched. Have any of our esteemed forumites acquired one of these, as yet?

I don't have one but it was launched on 18 March.

According to Sanofi, it is not fully launched, but my be available, on request.

If I was in UK currently, I'd have one, I think. The profiling requirements appear quite straightforward.

Just rang sanofi and I got one coming in the post in 3-5 days time free of charge

Nice one, are the strips available on prescription yet and do you know if the meter can test for Ketones ?

Fancy that their 3 miles from my house I'll have to look at website later looks really interesting, also to see how accurate compared to a blood test. The only problem I have is I'm visually impaired and have a talking metre which is brilliant, and as mentioned are the sticks going to be easily available and cost effective

I don't know about the sticks yet. To be honest, I had assumed it would use the same sticks as the other BG Star meters, but that could be very wrong. The HBa1c estimation is taken from a seven point profile, on one day, plus "sufficient" fasting readings to allow the algorithm to run, so I can't see why the strips would have to be any different. I'd think it's the onboard software that will differ.

Sorry, Mo, I have never enquired about ketones, but my current iBG Star doesn't test for ketone (unless I have missed anything).

Unfortunately, I am away for another 4 months, so will have to wait until I get back to try it, but I'd love to hear how everyone gets on.

Oh well. Spending time in Paradise has a downside after all.

Looks a good meter and the estimation of Hba1c is a first for a bg meter , still think the Accu-Chek Aviva Expert is a better meter with more features going by the Sanofi website.

Sorry never tried that meter so I can't say but I do use sanofi and I'm looking forward to trying this one as I already get the strips
