Do you think you know what you are eating?

My point was, once food has been heavily processed, it is no surprise that you can't tell what it is. In living memory, processed meat has always been a bit suspect. This shouldn't come as a shock to most people.

Nothing comes as a shock tbh. Pile it high, sell it cheap, everything is about mass production. Foods the same as everything else, we want it cheap, they need to make it cheap.

That's true. I think it is better to cook from scratch whenever possible. At least then you have a better chance of knowing what you are eating.

I was just watching a program about that, relatively poor family, can get a family sized lasagne for £3. Full of rubbish though. But it's either that or nothing. So at least we are in the position to be able to choose to cook from scratch, and have the time and the money to do it.

There's been some tv programmes recently highlighting the very same things, it's dishonest and the company's involved need to be made accountable.

I couldn't work out how cheese could be faked.

The article said it was cheese analogue, made with vegetable oil and additives.
Sounds foul.

I think if we really new what was in or on our food, even things sprayed on organic fruit and veg, we would never eat anything.

Douglas - you make it sound like I am privileged lol. if you only knew :)

No, it's just there was an article on tv at literally the same time.
I haven't bought an avocado for years, but google tells me tesco are doing 2 for £1.50, so that's 4 for the £3.
I was looking at chicken breasts, something like £8 for about 6 yesterday, or a huge packet of chicken nuggets for about £2. It's not hard to see ehy some people don't have decent diets if they struggle.

I think it's just bulking, and it says a lot when that's getting cheaper than milk!

The C4 programme Food Unwrapped investigated cheese slices (the type you put on burgers and such) and found they had no cheese in them whatsoever, basically it was just veg oil and a load of other ingredients.
