Hey Everyone

Strange, possibly stupid question but..... Im finding that my toujeo insulin isnt as stable as Id hoped and I have a clinic appt in 2 weeks with my consultant. Do I ask to be changed from toujeo? Or do I wait for him to suggest? I know toujeo is relatively new and I worry he'll want me to stay on it to give it a chance but its been nearly a year now and truthfully I feel I need something more stable but Im not a doctor so dont want to be rude or appear that I know more than he does!

I'd mention something, surely things would of settled down after a year on it.

You'll never know if you don't ask.

Do you keep a diary with your blood sugars I and carb intake ??

Kelly :)

I'd ask to be changed. Just be polite and have a list of reasons ready to give. You have to live with the diabetes, so if you're really not happy say so :)

Agree totally with @mahola
he might be the professional but you live it 24/7

In my experience good medical professionals (ones that go out of their way to help) are hard to find. In most cases you need to really emphasise the problems you're having and if they don't offer anything, have your own suggestions prepared, and if they disagree, make sure they give you really convincing reasons.

One of my friends tried both Toujeo and Tresiba and said that Tresiba was far more stable. YDMV of course...

Thank you so much everyone. Will definitely be pushing to come off toujeo!x

If your basal isn't working for you your doctor isn't going to psychically know that, you have to tell him. If you want your basal changed, you have to tell him that as well.

It's perfectly possible to have a polite discussion about it and for you to take into account any objections if your doctor thinks switching isn't the right solution. But it is you who has to live with the decision, so you should have input into making the decision.

Any doctor treating someone with a chronic condition should know that the patient does know more than them. They might have a go at managing your die eyes for 20 minutes every six month. You do it 24/7 365 days a year.

Can't add much more to the excellent advice already offered to you @Lynz84

As @mentat says ask if you can try Tresiba instead, the feedback on the forum from those who use this basal is very good, I'll tag one user in the hope he may comment @robert72

hi @Lynz84 - I had no qualms about asking to try Tresiba. I'm allergic to Levemir and wasn't getting on with Lantus so my consultant was happy to switch me over. I've also found it to be very stable. If you are not getting on with Toujeo then it seems reasonable to ask to try an alternative.

Oh thank you very much for that!! Will definitely make the suggestion
