Practice nurses dealing with diabetes do at least have to have studied further and specialised in aspects of diabetes.
Our community nurses that look after care homes both have a degree and the next level up degree as well.
Nurses are more on the ball at specialising.
There is new software to assist GPS called The Emis Qcancer tool. It looks at consultations as they happen and can pick up and highlight where extra investigations for symptoms of cancer is needed. Our Practice have decided to use this programme.
There is also another software programme (QOF) Masters to assist in coding of patients and this programme also has the facility of actually highlighting and preventing a patient being coded wrongly. This will also help eliminate mistakes.
Perhaps the techno world will be analysing us all for illness and diagnosis in the future.
I just wonder though whether these bits of software will then further reduce talking time to GPs ie 3 mins talking and them entering data for 7 mins instead of the other way round...
