I received an email from the site about the new Abbott FreeStyle Libre testing system. I find the idea of this extremely attractive as my fingers are quite painful to puncture and these days often require 2 or 3 attempts to draw enough blood for a strip test. Because of this I do not test as frequently as I need to having fairly erratic readings from day to day. However the ongoing costs are expensive, about £25 a week so I am wondering if this is likely to be available on prescription through NHS (Wales). To be honest I would even be prepared to contribute part of the cost myself but the NHS don't allow for contribution like this.

I would also be interested to hear from anyone who has used this testing system about its effectiveness and whether the 14 day claim for sensor life is realistic
