Does it matter?

Out of interest what do you dose for protein in comparison to carbs?
1u:10g carbs as I start to eat
1u:20g lean protein on a 2h extended bolus

It’s about 30% more in the morning, but I don’t tend to eat much/any of either for breakfast.

Straight out the text book?! :D

Just trying to help out, Dr Google did help as I don't take Fiasp myself, so it was either make something up, pretend I did use it ( which wouldn't of gone down with the site owners and terms and conditions :nailbiting:) or look online, which I did :) As I said, just trying to help....................

Just googled 'does fiasp make you fat' and there was a thread on here that was top of the list...........and on one of the side affects sites rapid weight gain was classed as 'rare' :D

I wing it if I’m away from my own kitchen, with mixed success ;)

You can do them on a laptop, but on a phone is much easier and of course more portable. The first few months of low carb/keto, I didn’t need to, but as my body got used to it, I’ve found I have to dose for lean white fish and shellfish - not salmon, fatty fish, eggs or plant protein though. I dose 1:10 for every single gram of carbs in one dollop and 1:20 for the relevant protein, and that’s extended over two hours usually.

The following is a little beside the point, but worth saying anyway...
I have to admit, my dear friend @Mel dCP - you DO have admirable control, and as we all (nearly) already have seen, your BSL-curves are also admirable.:)
You have proven that with control comes control :D -and that's never beside the point when talking T1/T2 DM...

OK - I'm back on track now...

Phew, been on it for a fair few months now and exactly the same weight now as then :)
@por169 how many carbs do you eat per meal on average? Just thinking if it might be the right thing to change to?

Breakfast is 60g 6 days of the week. Dinner is around 130g weekdays and tea is around 80g. I get small spikes every so often. As you are probably aware you can do the same thing every day and get totally different results....the joys of T1D

I use Novorapid, taking 3 units before lunch and 3 units before dinner. I inject when the food is in front of me and I start eating right away. I test 2 hours after start of meal and am in range or nearly so. I eat pretty much the same foods and the same amounts everyday.
Question - what about the time it takes for food to leave your stomach? Isn't that when the insulin is needed?

Processing of carbs starts when you have carbs in your mouth - saliva is helping with the first steps of degradation of carbs to sugars. That's why i.e. glucose directly in your mouth, as part of the digestive system, has effect against severe hypos also...(no need to swallow).

Edited to add: As we have started to consult Dr Google, here is the more scientific answer to the question...

The digestive functions of saliva include moistening food and helping to create a food bolus. ... Saliva contains the enzyme amylase, also called ptyalin, which is capable of breaking down starch into simpler sugars such as maltose and dextrin that can be further broken down in the small intestine.
