....I wonder what they'd make of carnivore...! Keto is a veritable cornucopia in comparison! But nope.... No dietician breathing down my neck any more, and yeah, with the blessing of my doc. I can do whatever I want, basically, as my HbA1c is usually the best in her practice (Far as diet controlled diabetics go... Which is easy to achieve, as I'm the only one!). I think it's just an excuse so they don't have to put the keto online again because they don't know the first thing about it. (Honey, sweet potatoes, really?!). And now, don't have to admit they know jack-**** about it. And at a tenner per month, with lord knows how many members, I don't think not having the funds to educate at least one team member would fly, but whatever. So I’m a member of own your goals Davina. I have been for a couple of years, do t pay a lot and I love the workouts etc.
But I have requested several times about keto recipes.
Finally this week they said they were adding them. They did.
I looked and there were recipes with sweet potatoes and a chocolate mousse with honey. So clearly
Not going to be keto. They also hadn’t included how many carbs were in each portion or recipe etc. So I pointed this out.
They then removed the keto section,
When I asked why I was told that keto diets needed to be properly supervised by dietitian or nutritionist which I think is a load of old tosh and to be honest told them as much,
If it was that then I’m guessing most of us are in a whole big load of poop.
But besides that why said it’s happening, add it then remove it. I’ve explained that it’s a vital way fo life for someone with diabetes and that it will hopefully save me developing complications. I’m not doing it as a fad day diet to lose weight.
They include vegan (which I think is just as severely restrictive as keto) and paleo (no ide wheat that is) and other diets they are just being a bit ****** about keto for some reason. The nutritionist has said many times she doesn’t like keto but her opinion shouldn’t be the end of everything. After all there are lots of things that were considered wrong because of opinions and that doesn’t make it right. So I’ve said they are excluding me blah blah and need to be more inclusive. I’m actually quite angry about it. Can’t see me getting anywhere but have complained.
But anyhoos, does keto diet need to be supervised? And why would it need to be supervised. I know those on insulin need to be more careful because of hypos but I can’t think of any other reason why it would be considered dangerous for a non diabetic or non insulin using person.
Given the nutritionist is probably a bit of a twit and is the version fo nhs and drs we see that think carbs are great for diabetics I’m assuming this is the issue, in that she doesn’t feel it’s a balanced diet, but as a diabetic balanced diet doesn’t really work for us does it?
So thought I’d ask people that actually know what they are talking about. I mean if my dr is ok with it surely given she is nhs and the nhs are slight dinosaurs when it comes to this stuff and even my nurse hasn’t mentioned supervision, I’m assuming this a load of old twaddle. (I have worked really hard not to use naughty language but apologies if one has slipped through, I don’t think it has)
I am paying yes but for the workouts. The money I’m paying is very good value for the workouts alone, it is mainly for recipe ideas and because if others can use the recipe section I don’t see why I should be excluded because they don’t cover a certain diet.pits never been ok for me recipe wise so I don’t use it.I can't see a good reason that a keto diet would need more supervision than any another diet. There may be worries that trace elements and some vitamins may be deficient in the diet but awareness of that potential problem is the way to prevent it. I understand that the only time body fat is reduced is when the body is in ketosis, one of the objects of a keto diet. The other major worry is probably ketoacidosis but as I understand it that only occurs when in ketoisis with high blood glucose levels. If I am wrong someone will be along shortly to correct me. the other thought that occurs to me, are you paying for the Own Goals system? If you want kept suggestions there are plenty of sites mentioned on this forum including Diet Doctor snd I'm sure you are capable of building up your own set of recipes from them. Good luck
I don’t pay a tenner, mine works out at I think £4 a month which for unlimited workouts etc is very good value.....I wonder what they'd make of carnivore...! I'm a rogue dieter! Hear me roar! *meow*
I find it very hard to do pure keto but I tend to be around 20-30g. Their recipes of low carbs is anything under 70 or 100 I think so completely useless to me,I've been low carb (not full keto) for over 2.5 years now. My GP agreed to let me try it instead of going onto metformin when diagnosed. At first the nurse was anti low carb but came round when she saw my 3 months test results. The dietician never did agree in spite of my success in improving all my test results, and nagged me until I stopped seeing her.
I get tested every 6 months now, both HbA1c and blood fats, and they still 'worry' about my cholesterol levels in spite of the improvement of my triglycerides (they were too high before I added extra fats into my diet then dropped, and dropped).
An added bonus is that my Vit D level finally got into the normal range after years of being too low.
So eating home made food from single ingredients with no processed rubbish needs supervision from a dietician or nutritionist.. no wonder the world is getting fatter and sicker with every passing day. When I asked why I was told that keto diets needed to be properly supervised by dietitian or nutritionist which I think is a load of old tosh and to be honest told them as much,

I can do some days keto but I do find it hard to do the constant.
