Does testing cause anxiety?

I used to get anxious when waiting for the results of the blood tests done at my surgery. Now I look forward to them because I know that my HbA1c will be improved/stable because I test at home. I am in control now and not expecting a telling off from my GP, which would also make me anxious. Why wait a year to find out whether what you are doing diet/exercise wise is working or not?

Today I was told by my GP to stop testing myself as it causes anxiety. Is there any science behind this statement? Does anyone have links to science papers which indicate this or the reverse?

BTW I have never felt more in control of my own health than at the mo!!

As has been said I think it is a very personal thing. I would of thought that anxiety then stress are often caused by what you cannot control. I should imagine if you were doing everything you could and your BG was going up that may cause anxiety. Would that be worse than the week waiting for unknown results from your GP or worrying about whether your BG was out of control - personally I don't think so. I plan to keep testing - less stressful.
