Dog walking on insulin pump

Hello

We've moved recently and I am now able to take my dogs for lovely walks around a local wildlife area. I am hoping this will also help me lose some weight. The problem is I don't walk the dogs at the same time each day so how can I manage insulin/blood sugars for this? I walk for about 40 mins round open fields but some days have been having bad hypos. Any tips or advice please?
 
Thanks Emma - any ideas how much to try reducing by please? Also how long to have temp rate on - just the hour before or during walk as well?
 
Try reducing it for 2 hours (so the hour before and during the walk)to roughly 75% so reduce by 25%ish. Depends on how your body takes it but it'll take some tweeking to get it perfect. I reduce mine to 75% and that works fine for me. It'll allow for the drop in blood sugar later in the day of you run the sugars a little higher during the walk.

I'm not the biggest of people and fairly sensitive to exercise...but for a gentle walk I reduce it by 30%, the nurse said to do this 1/2 hour before yo=u do the exercise ideally so that the change is actually happening when you are walking. Some people find they need to keep the temporary bolus going for a bit longer afterwards, I find that just 1/2 hour after works fine for me. It is a bit of playing but a 25% reduction should give you an idea and you can tweak it as you work out what works for you. I think I am a little extreme as if I do proper exercise like a good run or cross train then I have to drop my insulin by 70% so that it stays level, but that is literally for the 1/2 hour before and whilst I exercise if I leave it that low for too long after then my sugar rises quite quickly!
