Well, life is a real bummer sometimes!! I was diagnosed Type 2 back on 13th Jan with a BG level of 16.5. Since then I have been really good - no chocolate or anything that I know has sugar in it (the choc and sweet switch in my brain are now switched to OFF).
I never have been a big eater so that wasn't a problem - yes I know people say that, but I really cannot eat loads. i.e. for my evening meal three small new potatoes, about a handful of fresh veg and a small chicken thigh. Fruit and salad for lunches. No between meals snacks.
I had my first appointment with the Diabetic Nurse this morning and my BG level is 16 - WHAT???? She has now upped my Metformin from two tablets per day to four and is going to sort out a prescription for an extra medication. Next appointment in three weeks.
Since a week before Christmas I lost 12lbs, came back from a weeks skiing on Sunday weighing the same as when I started (9st 9lbs) and tis morning am down to 9st 6lbs. Not quite right but a bit of a bonus!
No questions - just wanted to get it off my chest.

Hi Julie, just wondered how you were diagnosed T2 as reading your post there are signs there that you may actually be late onset T1. The weight loss is a big sign, along with struggling to control BG levels. If your doc will give you a GAD test, this will confirm this. Lastly, your brain has switched the sugar off but carbs are just as bad and will elevate your levels. Try to limit the potatoes, bread, rice and pasta if possible.

Hi Julie,

Were the 2 tests you had just a random (ie not fasting) test, and did it include the HbA1c test? Any random glucose test result will depend on what you had eaten for your previous meal and is just a "one particular moment in time" result. It is the HbA1c test that is the important one as this will show your average levels over the previous 2 to 3 months. Ask your nurse for a print out of the blood test results you had before 13th Jan that initiated your diagnosis.

Hi. I agree with the other posters about the HBa1C test and the background possibility of T1. If the added tablets and a low'ish carb diet don't keep your blood sugar down then T1/T1.5 becomes more likely

Thanks for all your messages. The thought of T1 is quite scary but see my new thread this evening "More Success Today".
Feeling happier now.
Julie
