Hi, ive been execising for a good few months now and jogging is my favourite, well I signed up for a 5k park run Saturday morning and im ****ing myself, any advice on preparation leading up to it, im low carbing so should I eat normally or less, more etc? I was feeling fine then I looked at the website and saw all the young fit folks running and now im terrified hehe

First, well done for entering Andy. Especially in this weather lol ! However, Parkruns are usually fairly early so should be OK.
Hydrate well, test before you start. I would aim to be at least 7 or 8. If below this, eat a snack bar or something similar. Take something with you in case you start to feel low during run. Don't be tempted to race, there will be loads at the start and sometimes it's tempting to run faster than you normally would. Get into a nice steady plod, just aim to finish as it's your first. Lastly, test when finished and snack if required. Good luck buddy and let us know how you get on !

Good luck andy, specially in this heat you must be crazy! only advice I can offer is drink plenty fluid, definately have a carby snack b4, better to correct a high after if need than pass out lol. Have some qa glucose to hand all the time, most importantly have fun and enjoy it :)

I'm doing a couch 2 5k plan and have just finished week 5 with a 20 min run. I was amazed I could do it. I'm fairly hefty for a start plus have dine very little exercise since school.

I want to do a parkrun once I graduate from the plan

Yey Andy! We both know I've got no advice on this as my own running attempts are a shambles, but ill be mentally cheering you on!

Actually, maybe one little bit of advice my friend gave me last week. She's a personal trainer and has told me never to worry about speed when running. It is mentally better for you to finish your distance (so 5k this time) feeling fresh-ish. If you go all out at the start then by the end you will feel awful at the end and it will put you off doing it again. But if you finish and are feeling ok you'll want to do more of them!

I've got surgery tomorrow (ahhhhh!) but after I've recovered I've agreed to sign up for a 10k with my friends...... I've only gotten up to 4k so far!

I was using this plan, but after I found myself tempted to smash my iPod when the woman said "keep on running" I decided to ditch it and run alone haha

Hey, 4k is still better than sitting at home and doing nothing!

I dunno..... I would prefer to sit at home doing nothing haha

If you are running in full sun it might be wise to wear some kind of hat - light baseball cap or similar to stop your head getting burned.

Hydration is the main thing - keep drinking all the way round because it is very easy to get dehydrated and not notice.

Best of luck
