Why are we having this in the middle of posts I dont like it ,find it distracting. Does anyone else feel this way?

I'm not sure if i don't like it or i'm just not used to it.

It's sort of like when you get a free app from itunes and there's ad's everywhere!

I have found some of the links interesting. The inserts are small and don't bother me at all. I am more bothered by the links to other threads at the bottom of the page which tend to be not at all relevant to the main subject.

Hi guys -

The idea is essentially to integrate the forum and the non-forum parts of the site. If you look on the site, we've started to integrate related forum posts and top/most popular forum threads.

In terms of integrating the site to the forum, we've used the Don't Miss feature. Exactly 95% of the links that are shown are pages on the site (we have one external link to the Contour USB offer). The Don't Miss only shows after the first post - and that's how we intend to keep it - i.e. we're not about to put ads between every forum post!

With everything we do, we're trialling this; for 7 days. We added it today and are monitoring how it effects posts/bounce rates closely. If it doesn't work, we'll take it off! However, we're also intending to make it more targeted - so, if you come in on a medication thread, it'll show you medication-related content from the site. That's taking some time, but we're showing 2 items of text rather than 3 as we don't intend this to be interpreted as adverts. This is genuinely to try and make the forum and content-side of the site come together.

As with anything new, it'll take time to adapt to... having said that, we do genuinely believe this can be a useful addition to the forum. If 2 text items seem to much, we can try 1. We did start with 3, but we thought that it was too much and made it stand out too much.

We don't want to put loads of ads everywhere (and to be honest, we don't think we are) - with the similar topics feature at the bottom of forum threads and the Don't Miss text items, we're hoping to make each forum thread even more targeted and related to the topic discussed.

:)

I think you are doing a grand job and it must be a lot of extra work for you.

I just had a look at the food diary one for the first time...think I will use that for the main things that I eat just as a one off to see just how much fat etc I do eat...I always count the carbs...but when we have postings about qtys of carbs/cals/fat etc I just say that I eat everything in moderation trying to make everything fresh if possible....I actually think I will sit down and have a one off look now...

First time I have seen it...and wouldn't have seen it otherwise...

It's a lot of work, yes! :) No denying that - but it's worth it - onwards and upwards, as they say!

donnellysdogs - exactly what we're trying to achieve! :) That's brilliant news!

I actually signed up that food diary ages ago and then totally forgot about it.
this thread has remineded me about me and I just took another look its a fantastic tool will definalty be using it.

I'm on carty on this one, don't like it

One thing is that if you are going to do this link, can you get the information you provide on these pages, last time I had a stroll around there, it told me that was it victoza was T1's drug of choice for control blood glucose levels!

Tad wrong there!

Sorry to be a party pooper but I have looked at some of the similar topics and they dont seem similar.

The similar topics function 'learns' the forum threads by indexing them all - this process takes a while so hopefully after a few days it'll start to bed down and become more precise... It's only been 2 days so it's still indexing the forum threads!

Could the extra bits that we are seeing now under the first initial post not be put to the side of the page, so to speak.....as much as I have looked at them and used the food diary and the survey...they were a distraction..
On my pc...this page appears bang in the middle and is only the width of my hand and either side is wasted space...I can put up with seeing smilies etc...so I am sure it would be less of a distraction, but still informative if they were placed to the side, rather than dancing underneath the OP...

Ah OK - we can definitely take a look at that - not sure how we can do that, but it's a great idea - we'll try that, too!

yep, I agree it's distracting and too in-your-face, and once you've seen it once it really starts to annoy seeing it again and again.

My 2ps worth

I just assumed it was advertiseing and completly ignored them. So I was going to say, I don't like it. Howeever, after admins explanation, I will pay more attention...as in principle it is a good idea.
