Hi everyone!
I was diagnosed with type 2 in march 2002 and rushed off to hospital!
Nearly 11 years years later I'm on my regular insulin and metformins and lisnopril (4 heart)!
Life does go on, I struggle a bit getting around but I have adapted to the circumstances I find myself in!
I still drink and smoke and eat the odd bit of icecream. I am a bit overweight and 47yrs in 2013 but the purpose of this thread is to encourage people that having D2 doesn't have to be the end of the world!!

Regards Micolo

Well said Micolo ! Diabetes is a condition that should not take over your life ! Some changes need to be made for sure but life goes on !

Thanks its nice to hear its not all gloom and doom.!

Before I was diagnosed I had no symptoms but was obviously in a poor shape physically. My wife and I visited a colleague in Sweden who is in mid 70s. He really looked after us cooking lots of excellent meals such as steak tournedos rossini and going over the top by doing things like rolling par boiled potatoes in oats and then frying them. We drank wine, beers and spirits and his wife even made things like cardamon cake. When he reached out for a second piece however, she said, 'Ingemar - your diabetes!' That was the only indication we had for everything else seemed quite normal. In fact, he was more active in his 70s that I was in my 50s. He enjoyed a smoke too, as did I. I gave up though last year. That's worth doing if only because it is so expensive.
