Hi all, stupidly I have taken my long lasting Levemir nightly insulin dose twice! Any suggestions? Was about to go to bed anyone done this before? How did you sleep and cope the following day with it?

All I can suggest is keep your testing kit and a source of glucose (preferably liquid) nearby.

How long ago did you take the last injection?

Don't you hate it when that happens? (I've twice taken my bolus instead of basal and that is no fun at all).

First question, are you taking levemir once or twice a day? (Twice might be easier),

I'll assume once for the calculation below. Levemir is supposed to act for 24 hours (someone correct me if I'm wrong, I'm on lantus), so if you took an extra Z units, you've got Z/24 units per hour percolating into your system. Or alternatively, you've got Z/4 units of insulin acting over the next 6 hours. Personally, I'd eat enough for that, ideally something fairly slow acting.

Otherwise you could just have a snack and set an alarm for every couple of hours during the night.

Do you have a partner? If you do, definitely tell them what's happening.

Hi there, you are not the first and will not be the last that this has happened to.
Put it down to one of thise things, see if there are ways to prevent it in future.
And if you look at Levemir's action on insulin, ( google pictures of Levemir profile) you can see the type of way it affects bsls, gradual, fairly flat compared to short-acting insulin.
So. In this situation in the past i checked my BSLs every 2 hours, had some eggs and bacon and waited.
No need for high carby foods just 'slow-acting carbs - some full fat yoghurt, that type of thing.
The next morning, easing back the shirt-acting insulin dose but keeping the morning Levemir the same and keep two hourly resting. i called in sick for work and allowed time for hings to settle.
Go easy on yourself !

Thanks all for those great tips. All good now had cereal a banana checked blood levels in the middle of the night. Hadn’t need to take much insulin in the day. Now the 24 hours has passed and back to normal. Appreciate all of your advice.
