Dried Apricots

Type 2
I am a newly diagnosed type 2 diabetic.
I was asking my doctor yesterday about what foods I should avoid.
The subject of dried apricots came up and she advised against them. She said they contain the same sugar as the whole fruit, so eating say a dozen is like eating a dozen fresh ones.
I know people that have been told they are ok.
What is the truth?

I've looked in my carb book (Collins Gem Carb Counter) and it confirms the 2 dried apricot halves is about the same as 1 fresh apricot - about 4 carbs. It's about finding out what suits you - everything in moderation! Read the information on here about food and diet and look at cutting right down on your carbohydrates especially bread, potatoes, pasta rice pastry sugary drinks etc. Get a meter and find how different foods affect you. Ask to be prescribed a meter if possible they may or may not agree.
Lots of advice and info on here.
Best wishes
Anne

I avoid any dry fruits. Its not about sugar content but more about amount I would eat. I can easly eat, lets say 200 raisnins but 200 grapes its more difficult. Sugar content the same
