Hello everyone i am new to this site and i have a question which may be my downfall ... I was type 2 diabetes i am now type 1 taking insulin ... I am in the process of informing DVLA and insurance company ... now the question i have is this .. with this restricted license i will no doubt recieve, does it limit me when i drive abroad ?

If you hold a full UK driving licence (restricted or not) it allows you to drive abroad in EU and EEA countries, outside of these areas I'm sure you need to apply for a permit.

Hi. As far as I know the only thing about a 'diabetic' licence is that it is 3 years and not longer and restricts some commercial vehicles. I recently drove in the USA and just used my UK licence as before to rent a car. I did look at the Florida driving rules and they seem to be reasonably relaxed about driving with diabetes but I still followed DVLA guidance.

Hi. I've been stopped by American police, Canadian police, Trinidad police, Guyanese police and some European police all have asked to see my licence and never had a problem. I think some car hire companies will increase the bill if using insulin. Tempting to keep quiet about the when booking .........

I regulalry use hire cars with my work, I've had no issues with it and no hint of a price hike either.

Incidentally, even with my "restricted" license, I still have mor ecategories on it than my sister's other half as he didn't start driving until much later than most folk. He doesn't even have trailers or mopeds on his license.
