Ive read in a few places that diabetics have to renew theirs, 1 2 or 3 years after passing.. is this true? If so does it mean you have to retake your test?

Ive got my test coming up , im so nervous! Should I tell my instructor that I have type 1 diabetes or doesn't it really matter?

Thanks x

You have to renew your license at least every three years but no you don't re-take the test. The DVLA send a form basically asking have you had any changes since last updated.
You shouldn't need to tell your instructor (might be good just in case...). The DVLA will know and that is all that matters really.

In addition to what John says, you must tell your insurance company that you are diabetic and what type of meds you take. It should not affect your insurance premiums, might be a good point to let your instructor to know.

Hi. Yes, you must submit a form to the DVLA if you haven't done so in the past; it can be download or your DN can provide it and will need to sign it. The DVLA will then ask you to return your licence, having contacted the surgery, and issue a 3-year one within a few days. Then it must be renewed every 3 years with a form confirming you are controlling your sugars. Yes, you must tell the insurance company.
