I take Metformin as well as Avandia as prescribed by my GP. An eye doctor expressed surprise that I was taking both. Anyone else take both?

Hi kentishman.

It's a good job he is an Optician then. Metformin and Avandia (Rosiglitazone) are commonly prescribed together. There is a combination version called Avandemet as well.

I was on the self same meds for quite some time before being changed to Pioglitazone and Metformin instead after being given Byetta. (Rosiglitazone is contra indicated with Byetta).
The Pioglitazone was also stopped shortly after.

So all in all....your GP seems to know what he is doing.

Ken.

Well he's not exactly am optician. He's a senior eye consultant. I saw him because it was reported I might have Retinopathy and he does much work with Diabetics. To be quite honest I'd trust him much more than my GP who does most of his consultatioj by phone.

I don't think I would have too much faith in any Consultant who doesn't know about Metformin and Avandia together ? Especially if he does a lot of work with Diabetics. Horses for courses maybe ?

Ken.
