Hello, i have been experiencing dry eye frequently lately especially when my bg is high but tonight i am having dry eye all night long even though my bg is good now. I will call my eye doctor today and will achedule an appoinment as soon as possible but in the meantime I am very worried. Could anyone give me a hint on how dangerous this could be? I have been type one diabetic since 2011 and had an hb1ac close to 6.4 most of the times but my last hb1ac was 7.5.
Also i always use the ac while sleeping lately

Pleae advice,

Thank you!

Have you tried getting eye drops from the chemist to ease the discomfort? Apparently it's a very common condition and 50% of diabetics get it?
It's not on my mental list of horrible things that happen to diabetics' eyes to make them go blind, but I could be wrong. Though I can well believe it's extremely painful (speaking as someone who's prone to getting occasional injuries/scratches/infections on the surface of my eyes - map dot fingerprint dystrophy, not diabetic related).

Good luck, hope you feel better soon.

Hi @elie1102,
Air conditioning takes water vapour out of the air and that plus the lower temperature is very drying. People in aeroplanes have reported being doused in a rainstorm on their way to the plane on a tarmac and their clothes have been dry after an hours flight !
Also at the 'tender age' of 64, I find my eyes becoming dry more easily. So I regularly take lubrication drops. I have tried using eye gel at night also.
Of course it is worth checking with a doctor to rule out other possibilities.
A friend of mine had reddened lids, dry eyes and red conjunctiva (whites of the eyes) which required long term therapy, but he said this was rare, according to his doctor.
Hoping there is an easy answer for you !

I have dry eye, I asked my optician at my last eye test why my eyes kept watering- he said it's dry eye, your eyes water because they are trying to moisten themselves BUT tears are different from the moisture layer round your eye so that's why they constantly water.

I got drops about £3.95 and a put a couple in each eye morning and night completely stopped my watery eyes.

He said it's not serious at all just more of a nuisance thing :)

My eyes used to water a lot especially in cold, hot or windy conditions. I thought it was due to allergies or pollution. It could be embarrassing as people thought I was crying.
At my last eye test I mentioned it to my optician and she said it was dry eye. She suggested using an eye gel. I bought some tubes of VITA-POS on amazon, which is a petroleum gel, which I applied every morning. I didn't think it was helping much, but I haven't experienced watery eyes recently.

sitting a lot in front of a computer also
makes one more prone to get dry eyes too because our eyes blink less when focused on the computer screen
