Hi everyone,I have not been here for some time,i have been moving home and could never seem to find the time. I am still struggling to keep off the sweet stuff and my sugar readings are running high,my skin is becoming very dry,its flaking off as if i had recently been sunbathing,my feet are the worst and the emoliant cream from my GP does not make much difference, things are getting the better of me,i feel like giving up and gorging myself on cakes and chocolate:(

Aveeno is another good moisturiser. Don't give up and gorge on chocolate and cakes, you'll regret it. I never had a particularly sweet tooth, but since becoming diabetic and not being allowed sweet things, I now crave sweet foods ........sods law!! I've found chocolate with a minimum of 85% cocoa is ok, it's an acquired taste and is very bitter, but it does give me my chocolate fix. Sugar free jelly is another alternative if you have a sweet craving. I always have some in the fridge to turn to when I'm sick to death of savoury food.

Good quality emu oil is an excellent moisturiser though it can be a little hard to source

Alternately, if you know any hairdressers or other beauty industry workers, see if you could tag along when they go to their suppliers -- I have a 'Sally' trade card from when I qualified as a massage therapist years ago and the range of moisturising-type products available at very cheap prices gives excellent scope for trial & error to see what works

It helps a lot if you exfoliate the dry skin off before you put the cream on.
I use a dry brush which I got from the Body Shop and use it on dry skin before my shower then put cream on.
I saw a big difference in a week or so.

Coconut oil is a very good moisturiser and completely natural with no added nasties.

Hi everyone and thanks for your input,i know i need to try harder but its not easy as i have no willpower to say no to my sweet cravings,i am going to see a dietician end of this month,my overall diet is not good and everything you buy seems to contain sugar and i am no cook otherwise i would try different recipes with low sugar

Hey @Chalkie, what about if you just do it a bit at a time and slowly cut down on the sweet stuff? I've got a terrible sweet tooth and still can't completely cut it out but over time I've cut down a lot!

As pat said earlier try to gently exfoliate your skin before you moisturise otherwise you're just moisturising dead skin, a body brush would be best to use or a buffing mitt and just gently buff in circular motions.
As already mentioned bio oil is great, and aveeno. Palmers coco butter creams are also very thick and extra moisturising too.

Abbie :)

Some people find creams containing mineral oil have a drying effect over time.

Usually doctors suggest something like E45 cream for very dry skin - but it is mainly mineral oil, so doesn't always work. And cheap skin moisturisers usually use it to bulk the product out.

I should check the ingredient list for the cream you are using.
If you want to try something non-mineral really quickly, try olive oil, sesame or coconut oil (you probably have at least one of them in your kitchen). You may be surprised at how excellent naturally moisturising oils can be.

If they help, you might want to try Shea butter or jojoba oil too. Don't use Shea butter if you have a latex allergy.

Like JuneC above I've been using Aveeno for most areas and it seems to work up to a point. For feet, look for products that have 'Urea' in them. Yoou can get some cream from the footcare section of boots from a company called CCS and I read something in these forums about a product called 'Udderly', it's supposed to be good for feet - have a look for it on the web.

I get oilitum cream from the doctors for my skin so apply it daily to my feet when I get up in a morning :)
