Hello everyone,
I'm 14 years old and noticed blurred vision when I was newly diagnosed, I have mostly good control but it showed no signs of improvement. I then got told I have cataracts in both eyes. We think it is because I got it when i wasn't diagnosed.

It had been difficult to read things especially when its bright, and things look cloudy and faint. Its been decided i'm going to have one eye done on the 3rd March. I was wondering if any of you have had it and how did it all go ?

I'm looking foward to when it is done :)

Hi CR741

I haven't had cataract surgery myself, but I know two older ladies who have had both eyes done - one eye at a time, of course.

It is a dead easy op., takes about 20 minutes, then you have to wear dark glasses for a while and use some eye-drops, also for a while. Neither of my friends had any problems at all with it, both are driving again, and say it was the best thing that ever happened to them.

Eye ops are a bit scary to think about because it's so close to home - I live in my head! - but I'm 100% sure you have nothing to worry about.

Good luck, and let us know how you get on.

Viv :)

Hey CR741!

Sorry to hear you have cataracts at such a young age - must be awful for you. My Mum had her's sorted out with laser surgery a couple of years ago. She was terrified before the op, but immediately after the op she could see clearly for the first time in ages. She says it was the best thing she ever did and always tells other people who need it to get it done - no pain and very quick.

Good luck

Thanks everyone. It went really well, I had it done on thursday and I went back to school on monday. It didn't hurt or anything. Everything looks so bright! I was like 'wow!' :D I have been putting the drops in four times a day and that it going well. I'm really looking foward to the next eye and getting glasses for close work. :)

I'm pleased for you CR741 :) Hope it goes just as well for the other eye :) When are you having it done?

Thanks, we haven't got told about the other eye yet. I have an appointment with the eye specialist this thursday so I may find out some more then :) hopefully it will be soon :D

Thanks for coming back to tell us how you got on. I have been thinking about you.

Best of luck again. with the other eye. You know "the ropes" this time around.

Hello all,

I was only a month between ops but with you being a youngster they perhaps think it better to leave longer inbetween.
That's great it was only a month in between! :D They didn't say I had to wait because I was young, but they said they had lots of people on the waiting list hehe. I was allowed to have it done 2 months ago, but unfortunately I couldn't make that.
I got told I'll be prescribed varifoculs afterwards, so I can see better for close and distance. Does anyone else have them too?
Thanks,
CR741
