I do a bit of homebaking..Today I used sweetner instead of sugar..WHY did I not read the packet   ..I breezily added 4 ounces to my cake ( it had asked in recipe for 4 ozs sugar)

The cake is in the bin..The husband is very sad and I am giggling away to myself
I have made a fresh one..this time all is well..I do hope some of you here have done this kinda stuff

I was just sharing my giggle of the day
Oh well..lesson learned..wont do THAT again here :(

I don't see why you think you need not post........there may be 34 people who went away laughing too ? Not every post gets an answer, even some serious ones.

I was one of the 34. I laughed at it. :)

Well I read it and chuckled, thinking "Its not just me thay does things like that!"

I giggled too and wondered what on earth it must have tasted like   and what was the texture like? hard as a rock?

Well, if ever I go to bake a cake using sweetner I'll be reading the directions first because I would have done exactly what you did. Taught me something! :D

that's definately something i would do.

I once missed off two eggs out of a cake i baked :?

feeling proud, watching it bake, then i notice two eggs still out on the side, everyone said it tasted okay but maybe they were just being nice?

I had a DUH moment and did something very stupid cake related once (though not baking)

In the early days of diabetes, I came in from working late one evening and realised that I had forgotton to take my metformin with my tea. Now I can't take it without food, and a reasonable amount of food at that, so went to the fridge to seek some, ate and went to bed.

It had recently been my daughters birthday, and it was only the next morning that I realised that taking my metformin with a very large piece of chocolate cake, was not the brightest thing I had ever done........DUH

If nothing else I bit it would have been pretty sweet though :P

That must have been a small mountain of sweetner :)

Made me chuckle though

LAter today I am going to make a low carb chocolate cake, but my recipie include sugar and I have no idea how to convert 250gm of caster sugar into sweetener - any suggestions anyone?

Usually should state that on the packaging.

For Splenda I think you just divide Sugar by 10. That said you often need to adjust the flour or fluid content as a result since it doesnt have the bulkd of sugar.

A quick search on the manufacturer website should show up what you need.
At the risk of getting this post removed because of the URL this is what I found: http://www.splenda.co.uk/recipes/baking-tips

Cheers

Andy
